This color (poppy red) seems pretty uncommon on 858 model cleaners. According to the timeline in some posts here, I believe this is a 1974 or early 1975 model. Most 858s were pumpkin orange before changing to poppy red in '74. There was also an unusual green color which seems to be even less common than poppy.

I've also noticed during the 858's run the data tag changed from "60 cycles" to "60 hertz" during the pumpkin era, reflecting the change to using the new metric term.

Older Constellation floor tools also didn't have the "Rug & Shag" marking and "with edge cleaning" like this one has.

Wow. There was one of those I seen on eBay 2 years ago or so that someone painted over with blue house paint. The paint was coming off and you could see the original color underneath, that color. I was going to buy it but after sitting for 2 months on eBay at $2.99 and $30 shipping the seller pulled it off. Never seen it again.

Wow, that would have been a steal if the paint was good underneath!

Yeah I was going to buy it as a candidate for testing this new jelly paint remover I bought at that time, which I seen on an old home improvement show where they used a similar product to strip old paint off an antique wood door without hurting the door itself. But oh well. I guess someone painted it blue because they didn't like that pinkish orange.

Here’s my green 858 that I got for my birthday this year with a matching chair in my house. And then a picture of it with the rest of my Constellations.
