I believe it’s because of the Aeroplane models named DC-9 and DC-10.

I would agree EXCEPT....

There was a DC-03 and there was a DC-3 plane, many of the venerable soldiers still flying today....

Probably the same reason why there's not a half-life 3, windows 9, iPhone 1, etc

I don't know.

@Oreck_XL I didn’t know that if I’m honest! It only what I’ve heard so may not be fully true!

I hope I don't get in trouble for the reveal, but I have some inside information. The DC09 was supposed to have a spring loaded power nozzle extension to go under low furniture. It was promising until they found in in-home testing that cats decided it was a toy and destroyed them. The DC10 was an innovative brushless turbo nozzle that sent vibrations into the rug. It was effective on carpet, but in the focus group discussions, some claimed that it was offensive looking (i.e. looked too much like an adult toy). Not all prototypes make it to production.

Was the DC09 & DC10 upright or cylinders

I also heard that the aeroplane manufacturer held the copyright to the "DC09" and "DC10" names. And I've a sneaky feeling a Dyson representative told me that over the phone.

Must have been around the time of the jump from DC08 cylinder to DC11 cylinder cleaners. Incidentally, I distinctly remember seeing a prototype DC11 with remote control power buttons on the handgrip, possibly in an Argos catalogue book. Apparently that model actually never made it to the shops.

They probably applied those features to the following model...

And neither did the DC12 appear in the UK. I remember that the newspapers had a press release about the DC12 being able to 'talk' down the phone to Dyson HQ, to relay motor operating condition and faults. I'm assuming it would be in the style of an acoustic modem: beeps and warbles.

Here's the DC12

DC13

Not as far as I am aware. They probably decided against it, what with some folk (i.e. some customers) being superstitious.
