Question for you experts:

I have a PN 2 power nozzle that cuts out intermittently. I can run it for a few minutes but then it cuts out. I don't think the motor is bad. The power nozzle had not been turned on for quite some time and may not be used to running? I am wondering if something needs lubing but have no idea where to apply or what to apply from a lube perspective. The motor does not get too hot or anything like that. The motor sounds fine when it is running. I was thinking about taking the motor apart and cleaning any dust that might be hindering something. The brush roll is clear of any hair so that is not the issue.

Does anyone have any recomondations for trouble shooting?

Thanks much!

I have a few Electroluxes here of different models and with some of them the PN cuts out, and the same PN runs perfectly with other models, my understanding is that the electric connection at the canister end or the hose end is not consistant.

Do you have access to another Elux and another hose you could test your PN with ?

Some ideas

Yep could be one of the connections. To isolate you might try plugging the PN itself directly into the hose connection or if you have an older model right into the power port on the vacuum where the hose wire plugs in. If the problem ceases it could be one of the connections in between. Post a picture of your entire unit hose and all. If you have the electric hose with the swiveling handle it could be inside the handle. There are a few different hose handles and hose wire configurations that were made in that era so I’d need to see which one you have. Also sometimes the sheath cord in the wand wears out and the cord from the PN doesn’t make a good connection.

If it’s not this then it could be a faulty reset switch on the PN itself or a loose connection inside the PN. The reset switches can fail.

You can check connections also by wiggling each one while it’s all on and see if the problem occurs while checking each one. Try running the vac and don’t move it at all and if it still does it without it moving it may not be a poor connection but instead the overheat reset switch.

The motor shouldn’t need lubrication.

If you wish to clean things out vacuum any dust out and then attach the blower end of the vac to blow any remaining dust out or use a compressor with the air attachment but do the blowing outside so you don’t have a mess of dust everywhere.

I learned a lot of this from our Electrolux store maintenance guy when we brought ours in for a problem and he took my Dad and I into the workshop and showed us all about ours.

Thanks to the both of you for posting a reply to my problem. I will follow both of your advices and hopefully remedy the problem. I can test this power nozzle on another lux too. I am hoping it is just a loose connection as I really still think the motor is fine.

I did run the nozzle fine in place for about 5 min without moving anything and them it wound up stoping and starting again. I want to say the rpm's seemed a little slower on the motor.

Thanks again Jon and suebecois!
