Pictured is a reproduction bag on the left and a original 505 on the right. The 1st thing that stands out is the size. The reproduction was made smaller, or shorter then the original. 2nd the reproduction is made of corduroy the original is made of black duvetyne. 3rd the strips that run from top and bottom go all the way into the stitching of the bag on the original, the reproduction do not. I watched these reproduction bags sell for $150.00 to $200.00 each. When this NOS original bag went up for sale on ebay I couldn't believe my eye's, and started shaking as I hit the buy now. I can only assume that people who saw this thought it was a reproduction, or was unwilling to pay the $150.00 they were asking. I'm glade I knew the difference and got this very rare bag in like new never used condition. I watched as two NOS 513 and 514 bags went up for sale some time back, and sold for about $365.00 each. I think I got this 505 bag very cheap indeed.

513 one went for $265 the other $235 I believe.
The gold stripes stop one inch before the top and one inch before the bottom. So neither of these are completely correct.

I can see that you and I are going to get along just peachy Les....LOL!! If you read closely Les I used the word "about" OK? Small detail you overlooked, but thanks...also is your 505 a 505R? And please by all means correct me if I'm wrong but the bag on the right pictured above, the strips go down into "the stitching" that is original, just like all of these 505's pictured, below again look closely the strips go all the way into "the stitching"... but don't believe your own eyes. The reproduction doesn't " Side Note: I got all the way through this without calling you names or putting you down....just saying...love ya Les.....peace.

side note: "Same gray bag as 513 with V-shaped stripe, but 514 bag has a pronounced mottled pattern running through the fabric"....spitting hairs?

I was on lunch. The lines stop and and inch and a half of material after the stripes. The top has an inch maybe inch and a half without stripes.
The bottom of the 505 bag has 1/4 inch then the bag spring and inside the bag there is a full inch inside above the bag collar. The upper portion is where bag clamp goes.
I've owned 513 515 517 519 bags and i don't like them.
My bag is spot on exact replica no details overlooked. I'm not splitting hairs I'm trying to prove a point Im very knowledgeable.
I'll just post it here don't call me out on facts. The bag collar and bag guard I know collar is plastic sleeve for sanitronic shakeout bags, bag gaurds go on bottom of the vacuum bag over bag spring break begining on the 516 models.
I'm glad to help with knowledge but you get my point. I'll be civil and help if you do so too.
The maker of your replica bag on 514 Mike baldo or chicago Mike. He is the person who knows Kirby's better than most. Electrolux 137 is a genius, calem who never posts and mother member I' don't care to mention.nb
You make nice show quality machines and you should be proud.

Reprodution

I know who made my reproduction Les, I bought a number of his bags before we had a fall out. Mike and I got into it once over my 508, telling me the 508 did not have the same light trim set up as the 505, but had a one piece trim like the 509. He was wrong and when I challenged him about it like you he started putting me and my work down, and started calling me names. Sadly some people let their ego's get the best of them. It wasn't until I was able to show him pictures of other 508's with the same set up that he was able to except it sadly even then he didn't like the fact that he was wrong.

I also challenged the fact that he was not forth coming about his work on eBay. I told him he should tell people that the trim and 509 belt lifter on a 505 he was selling at the time were painted. His reply was "they don't make black or grey trim anymore and the buyer should Know that". So if your not knowledgeable about the Kirby's then it's on the buyer....nice. I noticed he no longer sells on eBay I can only guess as to why. Pictured is my 508 before and after. The bag is one of Mike's reproductions. Mike does wonderful work I wish I could match it, but I'm happy with mine.
