I recently picked up this beauty from Facebook Marketplace for $25 and would love some info on it. Its the only one I can find, and does not have the corner cleaner. If anyone has info on it, please let me know! Thanks!

Woah!

That thing is super cool! I'd like to find one of those. I have no info on it, though I usually know a lot about Dirt Devils. Thats the first one I've come across on the internet. It's odd how many versions of this basic style they made. You are very lucky!

Regards, Garrett

I remember those when they were new. My vac shop sold Royal and Dirt Devil in the 1990's when those machines were new. Wait until you find one of the red ones with a variable speed control and switch in the handle. Talk about top of the line.

I had one similar to that. I found it beside a dumpster at the apartment where I used to live. It needed—guess what—a bag and a belt. It also had an interesting feature—swivel casters to improve maneuverability. I used it for about a year but then I sold it at a yard sale for $15.

Do you have any unsold units? I've seen the ones with the switch in the handle grip, but I didn't know they, or other versions had an electronic speed control. That's very cool. Was there any other units in the Emerald Collection? Or and other styles of the Sterling Set? It's weird how they would start different series of vacuums but I've only seen one version of each.

A very interesting and very rare dirt devil. Its the first time I've seen that model and now I want to look for one.

Flabergasted and

humbled. I once thought I had a finger on the pulse of these DD's. Not even close. I have a black DD-Deluxe from '92-93 with an 8 amp motor.I'm really curious as to the year of yours because they could be twins but with you having a 10.5 amp motor. Never have I seen the extra .5 amp listed on these machines.Very special.

If you were to put your hand over the hose end while running the machine, does the front bag lid want to cave in. They had a problem with that happening where the cover developed cracks from the stress exerted towards the middle . They fixed that with the next design change, I believe with the swivel models with castors.

If you get a chance could you see if your model has the same symptom as the earlier but same designed models? Thankyou, Billy

Model number

regularrett69's profile picture

Another thing I've noticed with this variation is the model number! These style uprights were commonly listed as the 7200 series, my own being a good example. It has the skinny style handle, with the edger. It's a 92 model. It has a different color scheme on it so it's specified with a 11 after the 72 in the model number. Traditionally with earlier Dirt Devil Uprights and things more expensive than the Hand and Broom Vac, the higher the first number in the model number, the more deluxe it gets. An example would be the 3200 is the Stick Vac, 5200 is the Lite with a brushroll, 6200 is the Upright Plus with on board tools, 7200 is the Upright style that's hard cased and has "better filtration". This really puts off my database of Dirt Devils, and how I thought there was a pattern. At the time this Emerald Collection was made, I was only aware of the 7200 being the highest series.

I think a collector that was a past Dirt Devil dealer from the beginning would have a pretty good feel for the company, and even at that they would have to pay very close attention to store specials and specific colors and things. I found out today that the Upright that I have was a Costco special. There was a model labeled as heavy duty without a headlight, and my model with a headlight. On OfferUp right now, there is the exact same one I have, with the headlight and correct colors, though it doesn't have the edger like mine. And there was also the white version made for Walmart, and the white version made for some sort of anniversary. I'm aware of about 6 different model numbers of only one year of the Ultra MVP, which doesn't include the Magnum MVP either. This is just showing how many variants of Dirt Devil cleaners were made, and why I absolutely go crazy for them.

The hunt continues!

Thanks, Garrett

Lol that is mine, I am selling it to another collector in Maine and am waiting for him to buy it.

I don't think the case goes in, no creases on it and doesn't seem to move. I will test it later

Also, hard to see in the pics but the whole thing is dark green.

Interesting I didn't know they made any of that model with variable speed. I do know there's a Magnum MVP with variable speed and cord rewind, but it was on the side of the vacuum.

Strange as it seems, I really would mind finding the model of this with that side edge cleaning diverted thing, either in black or turquoise

Oh Yes. In 1991 my store became a Royal dealer. We sold the metal Royals as well as the brand new Dirt Devil uprights, as soon as they came out. Over the years, they offered different variations to vac shops. The "premium" version had a handle with the speed control and the switch in it - as well as a full bag light on the top of the machine. I had a customer who broke her handle, and I couldn't get her another one as they discontinued it fairly fast.
