Found this in the trash yesterday, if I'm not mistaken it dates to January of '06, which was the first year for these. The flat, new inner bag was neatly placed in the outer bag and not connected, but then used like it would collect dirt, and just filled up the outer bag around it. There was also so much hair build up in the head and motor shaft that the fan sounded broken. After a good cleaning and a little treatment with steel wool, it works quite well. The bag has a small hole, there is is some blue wax like substance on parts of the cord and bag, and there are some pretty deep scratches on the head and belt lifter. But hey, it was free! lol
Sorry about the sideways pics, I didn't take them like that, it must've been done here. |

The dust bag is folded like that from when it comes out of the box, its the complimentary bag that comes with it. They must have bought it OEM through order and were too dumb to know you had to put a bag in it and just opened it up and used it that way. When it started belching out dust and stunk they threw it away. I guess it took 14 years of use to do it, likely seldom used and accumulated over time.

I bet the scratches are from running it under a edge of something that's a bit too low...sad.. expensive vac that can last a life time.. good job saving it. |

Yes, it is absolutely shameful the way some people abuse those machines but a testament to the quality of their construction that they take the abuse and just keep going. Kirbys are just plain hard to kill!
I can kind of see the scenario of this one: They'd had the thing for so long they'd kind of forgotten exactly when they bought it and, well, it was getting kind of old and the bag was getting pretty full so it had to be worn out, right? And besides, it's getting kind of nasty so let's just put it out by the curb and grab a new bagless plasticrap vac the next time we're at Wally World, you know, one of those new ones that has the hose built in. They're so much lighter weight and it'll be so much better... Nevermind the fact that plasticrap vacs are a false economy. Idiots! They don't deserve a Kirby but you do. Thanks for saving that one! |
