I have a nice one- i'm guessing from the 90's. the power nozzle very nice condition when i got it too- looks like it's never been used almost. the only reason i never used it is because it didnt come with a hose when i got it. a guy sent me this with an old defunct kirby 1c and 2c and an electrolux super j about 20 years ago- and one i did get with a hose( nice)

Go for a compact. I suggest a CXL or DXL. Unlike the FQ you'll be able to use a great variety of tools though the non standard button lock placement may prevent you from using some accessories. As it's been said it's cleaner to empty, the power nozzle is likely better and it follows you around better IMO.

They both have their drawbacks as far as emptying them goes. HEPA disposable bags are available for the Compact/Tri-Star now. Be sure to use them exclusively. My vote is for the Filter Queen for several selfish reasons: the attachments are always with you and the end of the wand and hose has rubber couplings so you don't scratch your baseboards when using the end of the wand without an attachment. I like that the Filter Queen has a "lo" speed. And it's quieter than the Compact. I have both the Tri-Star and the Filter Queen. I tend to use the FQ more often.

Compact every day of the week. The power nozzles on fq have no power. Filter queen has too many filters and poor suction.
Compact/tristar you get the most powerful canister even over electrolux. The power nozzles are made by eureka and are very good. If you want a setup get a tristar dxl get a wessell werk ebk-360. This matches the best cannister with the best power nozzle. I have a d80 green c8 with a brand new motor, c9 original motor and dxl newer motor. The hepa pre motor filter is a must. The hepa bags are great for very fine particles. Your not going to see much of a difference between hepa bags and envirocare(oem bags) bags. You can get a post motor filter I don't use it but if your allergy sufferer use it. It just decreases the power a little with it installed. |

I like the FQ b/c, like the rainbow, I get to see what was picked up when I empty it or just lift off the motor to peer in. Filtering quality is quite good, I serviced mine completely when I bought it...used it a good amount, and the filters are so clean afterwards. I'm with Dysonman1, like having all the tools right there when you want them since they are on the machine itself....like the two speed motors too

Both are amazing machine yes ,Compact /Tristar and Filterqueen i do feel whti the paper liner of theIEC Compact compare to the FQ the C9 is cleaner to empty i can fold the bag over and not touch any dirt .But i do miss the tool cady of the FQ on a Compact.
But growing up i tried both and both are nice to have .That being saidi have a c9 anda cxl id love to adda fq to my line up so buy the one you want .But i do prefer the style power and suction of the C9 ,mine hasa undergone a full restoration and performs vey very well .Compact for me grand ma had one . |

You have 2 different beasts. Compact is a rolling canister that is just the best vacuum cleaning machine. Its not a hepa vacuum. Its focus on very effective cleaning lacking on filtration.
Filter queen has this is a guess but 5 filters. Its like a rolling shop vac with one of the top 2 filtering vacuums. It will clevn but it's its focus in on filtration. If you want a vacuum you can use to clean the air and be pretty good at cleaning filter queen is your choice. Compact has filters mAking it filter better . Its going to deep clean with average filtration. Patriot is a vacuum like the compact. Its vp or president jumped ship about the time tristar took over. Its got high end filtration. The newest model can be used as an air filter. It is more powerful than compact and I believe every canister. |

You can get HEPA filter elements for older TriStar-Compact vacuums.Remember at one time drywall contactors liked either Filter Queen or TriStar for drywall cleanup jobs-better for that than shop vacuums.Double up on filter cones for the FQ or paper bags in the TriStars. |
