These are without a doubt one of Dirt Devil's most illusive machines. These only ever appear once in a blue moon on sites like eBay. Other sites like Craigslist have them much more often. Many people including myself have been after these for quite some time. Though I kind of lost interest in it afte awhile. Looking much more now for a decent 90's Broom vac. These were probably Dirt Devil's best cleaning upright of all of them going by things I have heard. The one the guy had probably had seen better days. I think they started selling them in 96 and 97 and probably ended aroun 99 or 00. Does anyone here know what year they stopped selling them? I want to say 1999 but IDK.

I had no idea they were collectible. We see old Dirt Devils in the Kirby dealer's trade-in piles all the time. I'm going to have to stop throwing them away and start selling them on eBay. Who knew? I remember them when they were new, I remember fixing them, and then I remember people trading in the broken ones (handle release lever problems). We don't rebuild Dirt Devils for sale, so I would have never thought people would actually pay good money for them. Thanks for letting me know they are valuable.

No idea. I’d assume around 2000-01 than again, don’t quote me on that. |

Could've sworn I saw this in an office YEARS ago with what was either a Hoover Futura or the similar looking Dimension II. Though it could've also been the EXTREMELY rare Swivel Glide Vision in bright red, which I always thought had a similar handle shape to the Ultra MVP. This was back in like 2001.

Yeah a lot of people collect Dirt Devil and within the past 5+ years people have been wanting them more and more. I used to have the base model MVP but the bag door was broken and would not latch. I have a bunch of Dirt Devil's hand vacs but none of their uprights. I just have a rare teal variant of one of their bagless vacs.
No vacuum should ever be thrown away. My neighbor just threw out a Bissell Cleanview that is a $100 vacuum. The brushroll looked like a shag carpet and the belt snapped, that was all that was wrong with it. |

I think it's not unimportant to note the fact that these machines are so rare because they were not the best build quality out of the starting gate. Most were in the garbage dumps by the early 2000's but now they've taken on a cult following because of the rarity. I think the same can be said (to a lesser degree) for the Regina Housekeeper.

Oh, what a person collects does not irritate me in the least. We're all here for a common goal - collecting vacuum cleaners. I myself have a small collection of Hoover Elites which are also somewhat rare nowadays because they were used and sometimes abused and many were put at the curb with broken fans and fan housings. Do I think they were the same build quality as the venerable Convertible, no, do I think they're better quality than the current crop of TTI Hoovers? Without a doubt.

And, if I worried about what others say about Me.... I'd have been institutionalized by now. Some want to "punch him in the face"... been called everything under the sun. "Mother...." was another. YEP !!!!!!!!!!
Sadly, the TTI vacs will never reflect that glorious history which began in N Canton. But, I remember Dick pike, himself, telling me that they never 'planned' to 'replace Convertible'. But, when the Elites came out, they couldn't make them fast enough. We've seen people abuse vacs. Even the good metal ones (many survived). So, there's no chance the "plastic" stuff could endure................. |

My dreams have come true! I've been rather hysterically replying to nearly 8 year old posts on this site just on dirt devils to see if i could get anything other than a hand vac (haha). If anyone wants to sell some of their dirt devils, like a lite, broom vac, ultra mvp, mvp, upright, deluxe, classic, alternate hand vac models, and any variants of those models, I'm happy to buy. If you want to list them on ebay, I'm still happy to buy. Just PLEASE let people place offers, list a buy it now price, and use the one up from the cheapest shipping, these vacs are delicate. I need an absolute empire of dirt devils (laugh). Grandmas hand vac handy parts mailer inspired this obsession...
Thanks, Rett |

I've always been interested in having a dirt devil with a cloth bag bigger than a penny! I've sent you an email. And back on the topic of the thread, I will try my best to win the Ultra MVP on eBay, and if I do, I'll send pictures and videos on here so you guys know what it might be like with the cord rewinder. I am a bit confused on where the VCCC is, the issues, and what costs are. Also where any vacuum conventions are just to show vacs and talk all day about them... Can somebody point me in the right direction? I'm just looking to show some of my recent finds whenever the next event is, and to possibly try others' vacuums.

Why don't you bring a few of them to the Vacuum Cleaner Collectors Convention in September. I'm sure there are many younger members who would want to see them. The Theme this year is Central Vacs (won't Greg Palmer be impressed) but as you know we have three days of festivities. A couple of your pristine Dirt Devils would be welcome (as you always are - you have a standing invitation). Will be great seeing you again, and a new photo op. Loved our last one. I’m using one of mine today. The deluxe was quite popular when I was young. I don’t have a problem with these either. I think they were a good value for the money back in the early 90s.

Impressive collection of Dirt Devils!
And, some beautiful Maytags back there too! I don't collect DDs, but I picked this one up because it was something you don't see every day. There was a discussion in a different thread about how stores cut the cords off of some vacuums to use them for display. This one came that way right from the manufacturer. Made specifically for display. A little Vac & Dust. I guess they included everything that the functional version would have. It appears to have a bag in it, and there's a microfiber pad for the floor nozzle. I've never taken it out of the box and assembled it. I just bought it as a novelty. Barry |

Pic I attached the brush roll doesn't engage.
Retail stores when you get returns the manufacturer pays for retailer to dispose of the product. This means they have to cut the cord. It was called 1506 at Walgreens. The number is referring to the number for the balance sheet of the business. They don't want defective items in circulation of the public. Les |

I haven't seen this thread in the top for a while, so figured it was done. The Broom Vac is on offerup, and I'm about to have the seller ship it to me pretty soon. Les, I would definetley buy your MVP, but I just got the older Upright Deluxe, and just ran out of room in the collection.
Thanks, Garrett |

Glad you have had luck on OfferUp. I deleted my account there. I probably tried to buy 20 vacuums off of there in a 2 month period in 2018 and each time I did, the seller expected me to pick it up (even when im 7 states away) when they had the listing stated they would ship it, or never shipped the order at all.

I wasn't sure. I worked at Walgreens and in 2009 every store got a 1030z. In 2016 they bought all the stores the orange hard plastic royal. I imagine it's probably pretty similar to that model.
I did get the 1030z and fixed it up. I sold it to a member on here. I wasn't super impressed with the royal hard plastic version. Les |

Maybe I can buy that one. I hope the price doesn't get too bad on it. I have the original instructions, vacuum raffle sheets, and the sticker that goes on the bag door that says "Ultra Reach, Ultra Power, Ultra Satisfaction, Ultra Versatility, Ultra Quiet, Ultra Filtration, and Ultra Power Path". The power path is a term used by dirt devil that is only for the ultra mvp, and is the "dirt passage that is 4 times bigger than other leading brands". Very cool to have the instructions!
Thanks, Garrett |
