I have recently acquired a Neato XV-21 from eBay it has a problem with the LCD is blank there is no text it will aluminate but I can’t see any display options it also has another problem where it takes a long time to charge then when it’s done charging it will only run for a few seconds

It could be the battery. Over time, rechargeable batteries tend to lose capacity.

Battery or perhaps the battery charge control circuitry. If the buttons still work and do stuff, the screen may simply have a loose connection. LCDs like that usually use only pressure to make a connection, and become loose over time. If the buttons do not register, it's more likely a control problem.

While I'm not sure it will remedy the screen issue, I'd start with a battery. They're pretty cheap these days. If you can get it working, those old Neatos clean pretty well!

Neatos do clean really well. I would say they are the most (if not close to the most) powerful robot vacuum. However, the only flaw is the electronics are extremely complex. Neatos are much like German cars, they’re absolutely wonderful... when they work. But when things go downhill, they’re a nightmare. I’ve had a XV Signature Pro for nearly 5 years now and I gave up on it about a year or two ago. It was wonderful for the first 9 months of having it, but things began to go seriously wrong after that and it never quite came back from whatever trip it took. I can’t say I’d ever have another neato again, it was just a very miserable experience. It’s packed up in its box just in storage. I’ve since switched back to roombas (which I had before) and I got the neato because I loved the idea that it maps the room instead of aimlessly bumping into everything. My roombas were starting to dent some antique furniture so that was a problem. The neato was so sophisticated and barely tapped anything. It was so gentle. But the roombas have better reliability. I usually have them for 4 years or so before things start going bad mechanically and then electronically until eventually it is too far gone. The newer models like the 700 and 800s which I have one of each are a lot more gentle. And I’ll take a robot that will run over one that won’t any day.
