I had purchased a lot deal from the owner of the Plano shop which will close in a week or so.
There are parts vacs (mostly Classics), and the trim and other parts you see in the pictures below. All parts units were tested and are working correctly. I will keep this thread up to date with what sells and if anything new is added.

I am not trying to make money on this stuff, but rather to save it from the scrap yard and landfill and help out collectors also.
Most of this is residing on my patio and I want the space back soon. No room in the garage or house for it. Therefore it will be very cheap but shipping will cost the most. Therefore the more you get the better the deal.
Feel free to link this to other sites as you please.
The attachment sets shown are incomplete - what is in the picture is what is included. They will be cheap though!

I also have a complete Heritage II with some attachments and shampooer that works but just needs a restoration - $20 if you can come pick it up in the Dallas TX area. I bought it for 30 but decided against keeping it - I like the older machines better and I already have a regular Heritage.

I am a very traditional guy so I only take checks, money orders, concealed cash, or walmart gift cards. A check is the best in case it is lost. I do not even have a smart phone, lol... Let me know if this is a problem so maybe we can work something out.
I only get email once a night in the evening so expect a delay in communication.
Many thanks!
-Rob

Oops - this was supposed to go into the 'supermarket' section.
Can a mod move it for me?
I was in that section but probably clicked the wrong button...

Kirbytex, I was only able to give the vacs themselves some more time. However if I cannot pass them on soon, they may have to be stripped of good parts and castings recycled. Really do not want to do that but no space for them. I bet every one would polish up nicely!

Kirbytex - I got the email and replied - thank you.
I see you are in Houston... If you plan to come up this way soon I can get you even more stuff if you want. At the end of this week any remaining parts machines will get scrapped so I will be able to get them at scrap value then...

Thanks.

jrdavis,
I have about 14 Classics (1CR) and 4 Classic IIIs (2CB). These all have good motors and other parts on them.
Most of the Classics have handles but for some reason none of the Classic IIIs had them.

2011hoover700,
Yes, I do have a power switch for a 1CR, part #110566. I will include the bracket and plastic button. Or just pay the difference in shipping and I can send you a whole Classic motor unit.
The Classic motor is unique to that model so a spare is always a good idea if yours gets used a lot. Just let me know with an email message if you would like to get it.

Can you tell me

what is unique about the Classic motor? I've got three and was just curious, thanks.

Post# 416144 , Reply# 10   11/18/2019 at 21:19 (1,178 days old) by texaskirbyguy (Plano, TX)

The Classic motor field and armature part numbers are unique to that model only and do not cross to any other models. (But will they work in others?) The housing casting is similar (but different) to the D50 and D80 and the larger motor brushes and commutator were introduced in this model. Also this is a one-speed motor. The D50 and D80 are 2-speed and the Omega and on are 2 speed. Even the Classic has a two-speed safety switch, as if there were other intentions.
Lets see if anyone else can add some more history to this.

Rob,

You are correct that the D50, D80 and Classic all have more or less the same motor architecture (including the front bearing plate assembly), the only difference being the field and armature designs.

The speed switch and the power switch are both the same on all three, except in the case of the Classic the power switch is oriented differently so that the switch button is on the rear side of the motor instead of on the side like the D50/80. That is also why the female plug receptacle is in a different position than on models Classic Omega to Legend II (the Classic Omega being the first machine to use a double-insulated motor assembly).

Difference

lesinutah's profile picture
The d80 later motors are very similar to cr1. I think field is close if not exact same. It is a d80 motor and coil slightly larger carbon brushes.
Layout of power switch is to stream line vacuum.
It's motor housing is different than any others one of if not the hardest to get access too.
It was the last kirby Jim Kirby made.

Ben,
Thank you - everything you said matches with what I had recently learned about them. This parts book I have now really is a great teaching aid!
--BTW, I know you have had a great interest in the Tradition and Kirby's ill-fated to lid-lock attempt. I have a bunch of top-to-bottom switch conversion parts that I got for the Plano shop as well as a copy of the official instructions on how a shop should convert them. If you are interested in them please send me an email (in my profile). I have never seen the top switch so these parts are not really useful but good historical items worth saving.

Les,
Well put - matches what I have researched as well. I am fixing to restore a D50 so just for grins I am going to see if a Classic motor will fit in a D50 housing. The only difference in the housing that I saw right away was the casting where the switch mounts to. If the Classic motor and brush holders fit a D50 housing, it could be a cheap solution for a dead D50/80 (though only one speed).
--ALSO your point about the Classic castings being hard to find is so correct! That is exactly why I really hate to scrap any of them. I have three right now that were robbed of switches and fans to fix other machines, so only motors and castings remain. Even the castings are not too bad - nothing a buffing wheel can't fix!

INVENTORY UPDATE - the Heritage attachment set and one G-series Tranny is sold pending payment.

Hey

lesinutah's profile picture
The motor is too big for a d50 housing. I wanted to use a cr1 or a tradition motor and it fits with the 4amp coil but not D's 50-80. It overworks the 4 amp coil. I thought it would be cool but my k meter was pulling more amps and I turned it off and half the carbon brush wore in less than a minute.
If I'm to create my blue trimmed vacuum it has to be dual sanitronic motor and coil.

Les, so the complete field and armature assy from the 1CR will not fit in the D50 housing? If not that may be another difference in the 1CR vs D50/80 castings...

Yes

lesinutah's profile picture
That is correct cr1 armature and coil doesn't fit. The coil fits sort of and armature it's too big in circumference to fit inside the coil. It's close but to much gurth doesn't fit.
I know half way through the d80 models Kirby switched manufactures for there motors. I bought 2 brand new motors and coils and numbers were different. Kent oyler told me something about it bill a007kirbyman explained it to me.
This may have something to do with it. The xr1 is hard as heck to access hole in motor housing to put in a pick to hold armature in place while you spin off the fan.
When the fan is off there is bearing plate. I think is built into motor housing.
The lower part of housing slides off unlike any other Kirby.
I have a 6 amp royal coil and I may try to get it to work with classic or tradition motor. I lf I'm correct cb1 cb2, cb3 all use same motor hence the reason I say tradition motor.

"what is unique about the Classic motor? I've got three and was just curious, thanks."
Wow, got my question answered ten fold, thank you for having this exchange, I'm learning a lot from you guys. If my classic 1cr's have a two speed switch are the motors still considered one speed by design with different wiring for switch? That's where I'm scratching my head a bit. Thanks, I know you're busy. Billy

Post# 416239 , Reply# 20   11/20/2019 at 18:16 (1,176 days old) by Lesinutah (Utah)
Speed

lesinutah's profile picture
The motor or armature has little to do with the speed. It's the Field coil sets the speed. Kirby since D's 50 are all 2 speed with a 2 speed coil. If you know what you are doing you could put a royal single speed coil. I believe amebush lamb makes motors and coils for both companies.
If you stick with Kirby parts you can wire a vacuum to be low speed. You simply cap 2speed wires and don't run wires to safety switch.

2011hoover700,
Yes, I do have a power switch, button and bracket for a 1CR, as well as a good headlight hood with original trim. One of the units that I pulled parts off and am scrapping had a nice hood on it, so I will pull it to send to you. Metal should polish nicely. I will include the rod and spring also.
Please let me know if you need anything else. You may send me an email message when you are ready to 'checkout'. :o)

Ben,
I did get your email and will reply.

The Plano shop still has many more parts units - about another 6 Traditions (no top locks), 6 Classic III, 3-4 Omegas, 2 Classics, 12 Heritage and 12 Heritage IIs. After this Saturday, they might be on their way to becoming beer cans...

Thanks!

Post# 416368 , Reply# 25   11/22/2019 at 21:37 (1,174 days old) by texaskirbyguy (Plano, TX)

jrdavis,
I can ship you a 1CR motor unit for cheap. Please email me (in my profile) your zip code so I can calculate what shipping will be (shipping is the most expensive part). If you do not need the handle, it will be cheaper to ship - let me know if you need it.
Also let me know what parts you need from the unit. All of these units are all in various states of cosmetic imperfection. :o) If you plan to restore it or need the castings or certain items, I will search for the best looking unit. ALL of them however have complete working motors with correct current draw.
Thanks!

Bought another smaller lot!

The following parts are available as well as most of the ones listed earlier.
Let me know if you need any of these - they will be very cheap.

Handle parts for 5xx - D80 machines
Switch housings, toggles, buttons, brush caps, used brush roll screws, and safety switch parts for 5xx machines
Shag King rake for Omega
NOS rear housing shell for 1CR (has one scratch on top) (Asking $20 for this one due its condition and rarity - this is for a show machine!
Two Omega manuals with dates of 1975 in the back.

Also (not pictured) 2 more Omega parts units and 2 more Classic III parts units.

Keep in mind, shipping is the most expensive. Get all you can in one order for the best deal.

Kelton, that shell is for a Classic 1CR, not Omega. Do you still want me to save it for you? I bought the Legend II hose and attachments, too.

Les, none of the pins in the bin have that circle (I take it was on the small end that you are referring to)

I got probably my last load today - will post what I got when I get time.

Crazy, I can send you two crusty ones that will make up a nice complete one (less cord) for $10 plus shipping. There is one that has a usable but very faded bag that I have in mind. Email me your zip code and I can give you a shipping quote.
Sending two will not add too much to the shipping amount since the the handle determines the box size and dimensional weight is used due to the box size.

Complete easy-resto vacuums

While not parts units, I will put these in this thread also.
All of these are complete working machines that would need minimal work to restore. There is one Heritage (set up to take the good HEPA bags) ($40), one nice original Omega ($30), One bojack-bagged Omega ($20), One Classic 1CR with washed bag ($30), and a Heritage II with new amodal fan, most attachments and shampooer ($60)

Note - the Omegas and 1CR will be fitted with the correct handles, unlike shown in the pictures. Also I can include an emtor with the bojack Omega for $5 more.

Prefer pickup if you are local but I can ship for additional charge.

Les,
Here are pics of the nice sets in that box - one is a 515, the other is unknown. Both have sweet air ports on the emtors and have metal PB switches. One emtor is missing the bottom but will include it or a a non-sweet air emtor with bottom, your choice.
Each of these is 20, both can ship together.

The center carcass with toggle is not shown - not sure if you want that also.

All work but bearings would need to be changed for daily use or restoration (recommended for any old Kirby).
Let me know if you have further questions...

I think I'll take them. I'll try to get financial situation by Friday.
I have a green LED light that would just make that vacuum look nice as a 500 series in green.
I take it that the motors are 4 amps. Do they come with sweet aire caps? I don't have many caps. I'll email you tommorow on paying for it.
I'd take the car as but I don't need it. I have more toggle switches than I have 500 series vacuums.

Les,
Both have sweet air caps. The one on the green machine was painted green but its red underneath. Yes, motors are 4A and were tested good.
If you plan to keep the green trim, I can toss in a green bag top if you need it - I think I have one.
Please Email me your zipcode so i can get a shipping quote for you. Did you still need the D50 bag tops? I had 2 put away for you...

If you use the box shown, you cut in half. Turn the machines sideways, fold the box over mirror image of the bottom. This may help on shipping costs.

Kirby Omega Bag

Hello,

Do you happen to have any original bags for a kirby omega, either pinstripe or gold but that has the omega label on it?

my email is kieranmarcus91@gmail.com

kmarcus, sorry, no Omega bags like that except on my now-restored Omega that I have owned for 26+ years. A sweet-looking chromed beauty!
Let me know if you need any other Omegas stuff, as I have several parts units and some restorable vacs

BONUS (non-Kirby) BAG OFFER!

Offering up some packages of new vac bags, free with purchases of any Kirby parts units!
What you see in the picture is all I have. The dirt devil ones on the far right are type d.
Also the cloth bags in this thread and some old brownish Lewyt hose attachments (brush and small nozzles) can be freebies with purchase:
www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bi...

I will include what you want, as many I can include without raising the shipping cost. My family and neighbors have no use for these - they were rescued from the Plano shop and I hate to trash them.

Have any Classic IIIs left?

Post# 418026 , Reply# 56   1/2/2020 at 16:55 (1,133 days old) by texaskirbyguy (Plano, TX)

Hoover300, glad you asked...
I was ready to tell you to look a the pictures above, but they were not there!
So here are two boxes that were not included, yielding 2 Classic IIIs, a G6 (that I might keep), and another Omega.

All work and both CIIIs have good metal fans. Both are missing emtors, BUT I bet the Classic oval ones will work and I think I have a couple extra red bottoms - I will look.

One CIII is missing the handle plastic and the belt lifter has a broken ear.

The other CIII (with the G6) would make a very nice restorable unit.

I can include red NOS headlight and nozzle trims with them (if desired) for small extra cost)

The following have sold:

-The nicer Classic III parts unit
-Two Classic 1CR parts units less emtors
-One of the nicer Classic 1CR complete parts units with the faded original bag
-The parts units of 515, green-trimmed 5xx, 514, tan trimmed 5xx, and stripped 5xx (actually I am keeping the latter 3 for parts and eventual restoration.)
-All of the Hoover type A bags and the Oreck bags
-Green bag top and bag ring
-Both D50 bag tops

However I still have lots more parts units, especially Classic 1CRs, Omegas, and later-model Traditions. One Classic III is left, and one 5xx.
Still have all of the nicer restorable complete vacs.

My driveway is now clear of Kirbys, but now time to clear the patio. :o)
Thank you to all who saved these machines and parts - I greatly appreciate it!
I hope to get some more projects into others' hands!!

UPDATE!

The following have sold:
Two Tradition parts units
Last Classic III parts unit
The nice restorable almost-complete Omega with bag

I still have many more parts units shown in post 36 -
4 Omegas, 2 Traditions, 2 Heritage IIs, 1 Heritage, 1 toggle 5xx, and 10 Classic 1CRs.

I still have the following very nice working complete vacs shown in post 43 -
1 Heritage, 1 Heritage II set with attachments and shampooer, and 1 Classic 1CR.

Still have lots of parts as shown in post 36.

THANK YOU AGAIN to those who have adopted one or some! It is nice to start seeing my patio furniture again.. :o)

Post# 419264 , Reply# 60   1/28/2020 at 19:52 (1,107 days old) by texaskirbyguy (Plano, TX)

I still have the below parts units shown in post 36. See pictures there to see what is included. All were electrically tested and current draws verified. No cords or bags.
4 Omegas
2 Traditions
2 Heritage IIs
1 Heritage
1 toggle 5xx
10 Classic 1CRs.

I still have the following very nice working complete vacs shown in post 43 -
1 Heritage
1 Heritage II set with attachments and shampooer
1 Classic 1CR.

I have one complete shampooer set for the Classic 1CR. Box is not pretty but contents looked to not have been used.

Still have lots of parts as shown in post 36.

The parts units MUST be gone on March 1st in preparation for an automotive resto project. I will need that space for a work area and there is nowhere else these parts units can go (other than the scrap bin).
Therefore these parts units are cheap - only $5-10 each based on buying one and based on condition. The more you buy the better deal you will get! If you are local, the deal will be even better.

I am hoping some more collectors and enthusiasts can save a few more of these during the next few weeks. :o)
Thanks in advance,
-Rob

Good Luck, Rob!

Rob,

I continue wishing you the best of luck in getting your excess inventory sold reasonably.

But... I also want to ask you this: would you happen to have any 162479 flat washers for the Kirby Tradition's headlight lock button (162079)?

~Ben

Post# 419295 , Reply# 62   1/29/2020 at 20:12 (1,106 days old) by texaskirbyguy (Plano, TX)

Ben,
I do not have any of those exact washers. I am willing to bet they are standard off-the-shelf varieties, so if we can get the measurements on one, we can source an exact replacement.

Yes, I do hope these will all end up in good hands very soon; most are too good to scrap.

Post# 419606 , Reply# 63   2/6/2020 at 19:02 (1,098 days old) by texaskirbyguy (Plano, TX)

The best-looking of the Omegas has been traded for some G5 attachments; I still have everything else listed in reply 60.

I will be posting to craigslist soon so if anyone here wants anything I have, please let me know soon. Most everyone on this site are either enthusiasts or collectors, so I would rather these go to your hands if needed or wanted.

I would consider a good or better G5 vacuum in trade as well. I do not need it but it IS my favorite color (will be the last for my collection)....

The end is near...

UPDATE - All Heritage II units have been sold and picked up.

I still have the below parts units for sale (pictured in post 36 of this thread). See those pictures to see what is included. All electrically tested and current draws verified. No cords or bags but all have handles & other parts. $5 each without emtor, 10 with emtor. Buy more, get a much better deal! Actual shipping costs apply. Those who are LOCAL and can pick up will get a MUCH better deal as I will not have to source materials, pack, and ship.

Parts units:
3 Omegas
2 Traditions
1 Heritage I
1 toggle 5xx
8 Classic 1CRs
3 more Classic 1CRs that are missing some minor parts (working motors are there and intact) (these are free - just pay shipping).

I still have the following very nice working COMPLETE vacs shown in post 43, suitable for easy restorations -
1 Heritage I (includes Kirby fill tube adapter for using G-series bags) $30
1 Classic 1CR. $25

One complete shampooer set for the Classic 1CR. Box is not pretty but contents looked to not have been used. $5
One complete Heritage II shampooer set - box is 'average'. $5

Still have lots of loose parts as shown in post 36.
Buy a bundle and I will make you a great deal.

I can only keep the parts units for another couple weeks at most as I need my patio space back for spring projects. After March 5th or so, I must sadly scrap/trash what is left. Given the low price of scrap metal, micro-scrapping may not even be worth my time.
Let's give some more of these another chance at life or help repair other Kirbys!
Thanks in advance,
Rob

LOCAL PICKUP DEAL - $20 ALL YOU CAN HAUL!

GRAB A FEW OR TAKE 'EM ALL!! For just the cost of a cheap, lousy lunch for two...
(Parts units and parts only, complete machines not included).

These would be great for someone to either sell as-is or part out and sell online; I do not have the space or the time to do so.
Below are what I have. No bags or cords, most with no emtors. They are only a week or so away from being discarded.

3 Omegas - okay condition. They are quite dirty but should clean and shine up well.

2 Traditions - very good condition. These pretty clean and will restore easily.

4 Classic 1CRs - good condition. They are dirty but should clean and shine up well. Only two have emtors.

2 Classic 1CRs - fair condition. They are dirty and scratched up but still could be usable as vacuums

5 Classic 1CRs - parts only. These are missing minor parts, castings are very scratched, but working motors are intact.

1 Heritage I - good condition. This would restore easily.

1 toggle 5xx - good condition. Dirty but should clean and polish up well.

1 Classic 1CR shampooer set.

I also have various extra handles and the parts as shown in post 36.

Rob,

I left you another e-mail about whether or not you may have one of the following:

114969 - armature for 1CR Classic
119269 - motor vent seal for 1CR Classic
143176 - air adjusting plate for 2CB Classic III nozzle

Thank you,

Ben

Ben,
I can help you with a good Classic motor for sure - just pay shipping. You will get as much of the machine as you would like (18lbs) or the minimum as shown below (7lbs). They have been tested and current draws verified. Reason for keeping the motors complete is that I can guarantee you will have a working motor as there were all tested complete.

NONE of the original foam insulators I have come across are usable - everyone I touch turns to powder if still there at all. These seem to be what makes the biggest messes inside the motors, also. I can get you the backer plates but no foams. The new foam insulators are available online for $6-8 each.

The suction relief plates I have but only in Classic brown. I no longer have any red Classic III stuff - that is what I had sold out of first. I never thought cherry-red vacuums would be appealing but they are - I really like mine!
I do not have the white or clear ones either.

Doomsday for these is four days away...

Two Traditions and four Classic 1CRs that are all easy restorers (just add cord and bag assys), and one 1CR like-new shampooer set in ratty looking box. All working.
Still have some castings and salvage 1CR units but those are less important.

ALL IS FREE to a local collector/re-seller/dealer or just pay shipping. Fedex is still open and I can take it.
For local pickup I can have it out it on the walk close to the house if I know you are coming, so there will not have to be any socializing. Just load and go.
Friday evening it all goes to the curb.

IF you email me please leave a phone number. Yahoo seemed to have killed my ability to send emails. I can read mails. Apparently 20 years with them was long enough...

What Les said is that you should occasionally check the Spam folder in your email inbox to be sure of if any e-mails he sent you accidentally got into it instead of the main Inbox folder.

You said Yahoo killed your ability to send emails. I supposed this meant your Yahoo email is flooded with spam not allowing Yahoo email to work.
Outlook is funny with non windows emails. See if there is a Yahoo email all .
