This was knows as the Special Model. It replaced the Electrolux Model L as the low end model here in the States. The brown units like yours were produced during the Electrolux Olympia from 1979 to 1984. These Special models were recolored to match the Electrolux Silverado that was released in 1984, and they were recolored again in 1987 to match the Electrolux Marquis. Electrolux quit producing these machines when they were replaced by the plastic bodied Electrolux LE (low end) and Electrolux Hi-Tech 2100 (high end) in the late 80s. Yours appears to have the optional cord winder with it. The Model 1653 was sold stock with with a cord halo and customers could upgrade to a cord winder if they wanted to. Any of the old style Electrolux hoses (pre plastic body) will fit it, including Canadian hoses. If you like this one, then you may want to to track down this unit's more delux counterpart, the Electrolux Olympia.

Thank you guys ! As I said , I'm not a fan of the sliding ON-OFF switch, other than that, the motor is strong and the whole machine is not too heavy. NOt sure if I'll sell it back with a good used hose and an assorted PN or if I'll keep it for myself. | ||

Don't know if you were aware of this, but the hoses from the Canadian Electrolux metal canisters will NOT fit the American Electrolux metal canisters. It has to specifically be the hose the American metal canisters used. While the American metal body canister hoses used 2 metal clips you push in & pull the hose out, our Canadian canister hoses had a plastic ring that you pulled back which released ball bearings around the edge, & you used your other hand while pulling back the ring to pull the hose out of the machine. Hoses made prior to 1967 & prior to the introduction of the 89 had this part made of metal though. This changed in 1973 when the AP 100 was introduced, which was the start of the plastic body canisters that evolved into the E2000, 2100 & LE that we have today as the Aerus Classic & Aerus Legacy.

Oh, sorry. The port on the Canadian metal bodied Electroluxes looked similar to our American Electroluxes, so I assumed the American hose would fit. Turns out the Canadian units use a completely different connector! Generic hoses for your 1453 are cheap and plentiful on eBay. Just make sure you get a good one. These are great vacs if you get to know it!
