Antoine If the rubber tube is the culprit, would the bag light brighten up anyhow or would it cut the current to the light too? The bag light was OFF when I tried the machine. |

Notice his wires there organized. If you also notice clips on wires very smart. If you don't have yours like his I'd route wires and run like his. If and when in the future will be easy.
If you have little pieces of tape label wires. These little details make a huge difference when you or someone else works on it. It will take a few minutes instead of hours. Les |

I just had a look at the bag door switch connectors and they look good. Is there a simple test I could do with a voltmeter to rule the switch out? |

Dude your Motor looks like it has been around the block and put away wet. The copper coils are loose, carbon brushes look like they have never been changed, corossion mildew and rust. It's every where. Tell me the old motor is pic 7 and it goes backwards otherwise Im no expert but if that motor runs it won't for long .

The coil looks done for. Idk might need new motor but cleaning it up and drying it will help alot. I am going to mention something weird. Go to parts store get best degreaser they have. Go to car wash dump degreaser all over everything and power spray. Continue this a few times and the motor would look Clean and brand new.
I mean shiz look at it. It will make motor work if it's going to work. It will clean up wires. Wash at car wash a few times until motor is in excellent condition. Dry it completely. Then wire it and it should work. Les Don't listen to mad men he's crazy. All up in here talking like he is an electrician. Oh and if you have any skills rip old wiring out and rewire correctly. Les |

If I wire 120V directly to the brushes connectors , should the motor run if it's good? |

I have another AP-100 in the basement that runs good, I think I'll open it to compare the wirings and see what is wrong, if it's the wiring or the motor itself. I'll post pictures of both side by side. |

I just pulled a cord out of a B28 carpet cleaner, I'll use it for in that reel, it'll probably a bit longer than the broken one. |

Les, I've completely rewired 3 houses. I've solved electrical problems that real electricians failed to. I've also rewired entire cars. So I think I'm allowed to talk like I'm an electrician. Also, yes, I am crazy.
quebecois - Don't feel bad about not noticing the broken cord. I did the same thing a couple months ago! The cord was all chewed up and I was taking apart the motor to see why it didn't work lol. Always remember when diagnosing something - anything - start with the basics. Also, never apply power to the brush connectors! You want to apply power to the field coil wires, and even then, only if you know which ones are which. Most one speed motors will only have 2 wires going to the field coil (not counting 2 more wires that come out of the field to go to the brushes). |
