Hello, this is more for the UK collectors as this is a uk machine that I am trying to fix. I pulled an electrolux twin turbo z551 out of my local tip about a year ago and it worked fine and has done with regular use for the last year or so. But recently, the motor started making some unusual scrapping noises and other strange sounds and the bottom line is it is knackered. They unsurprisingly dont make motors for this machine anymore as it is an old 80s model but I was wondering if any of the collectors or repairman on here knows of a general purpose vacuum motor or a motor designed for another machine that will also fit this? It would really help me out if you could help me find a new motor as I love my electrolux and I would love to get it going again :) Thank you, jake.

Hey Jake

Here in South Africa the 500 series that were locally manufactured ( from midway through the 506 run ) were rebuild able, You can open them up remove the fans replace the bearings and so on But From what have heard this is not the case with any of the 500 or 600 models .

The good news is that their are many Electrolux models which motors would fit that machine, Electrolux 600 series and the Glider and contour 1 and II motors will fit, I have a 502s with a 1200 watt Contour 2( imported not made locally ) motor in it and it is a beast. You should be ale to find something on Ebay that can help.
Hope you come right
Gareth
