So after hearing from this vacuum store I ordered from that this one Hoover commercial vacuum was no longer in stock. I got pretty irritated due to the timing. Just 7 days before Christmas Eve, and 9 days after ordering, I’m told “sorry! That machine is no longer available.” However, I had called the day I placed the order if not the day before, and they confirmed that Hoover. So I got to searching. I checked Facebook Marketplace, Craig’s List, shopgoodwill.com, letgo, and even offer up! I was on the verge of giving up until I found the same Hoover vacuum for sale for $24. This was a Hoover c1439, a pre-TTI guardsman. This vacuum was called the “Preferred Commercial”. Now after cleaning it up, I’m glad to say that I have what MAY be a RARE Hoover vacuum. Looking at it, I’m noticing a few differences between this and the Hoover convertibles. First off, the motor is the same, but the armature fan is not visible like it is on the convertibles. Next, the handle bail is made of a VERY sturdy plastic, but there is no grip like there was on the convertibles. The upper handle also secures on the side and not from the back, but it still uses a large screw. Lock washers are also present. The bottom plate secures now inside the brush area inserted of through hooks on the front. The clips are still the same though. There also is an area on the motor where the light socket would mount, but I’m not sure why it’s there other than this is a recycled design from the convertibles. Upon initial testing with no brush or outer bag the vacuum sounded very powerful, but it winds up and winds down much quicker than my old u4395 Custom Convertible.
I must say, the bottom looks really rusty, but that's a great find!
It might be rare but I don't know because I'm from the UK, not to mention the fact it's labelled Convertible rather than Senior. And may I ask, did this series of model never have a headlight in the US? I'm just wondering because every American 'convertible' I see doesn't have a headlight, compared to the UK 'Senior' version.
