Hello!
Some of you may remember when I posted about a D80 I brought back to life. At that time I was not aware how well it would come out, so I only had a couple of “before” pictures. This time, I have several “before” pics of this 510. I like to call this project “The Sad Kirby Diary —- A Road to Repurpose.” Lol. Stupid, but I’m excited about this project and I hope it all comes out ok. Anyhoo, I managed to make some progress on the nozzle this evening. Here are some pictures (most before and a couple of the nozzle as it is currently). I’ll post as things go along. Oh... it runs like a champ! It does need a new front bearing and new carbons. Also a new bag, but all that’s in place and will come after the metal is finished. |

I remember reading the progress of your 505 - that’s a model I’d LOVE to have!
I’m glad you posted the link because there’s info in there which really will help me along, thank you! I’m really looking forward to having this machine complete. I haven’t had a sad Kirby in a while, and it’s always fun making them happy again! The oxidation on this one is fairly heavy, but the D80 I restored was about the same. The bag on this one sadly has a lot of holes around the base so I’m not sure it’ll be put into service, but I do plan on cleaning it and seeing what transpires. I’m thinking to work on one piece each evening. Once all parts are cleaned up, then take a day and put them all on the buffing wheel. From what I know, it sat out in a shed for many many many years (likely decades). The bag wasn’t very full, but there was a lot of organic debris in the emtor - leaves and dirt. It’s always fun to take the worst of the worst and make them perfect again. It’s fun to bring them back to life. |
