On which Aerus (Electrolux) upright was the afterfilters introduced?

If possible, I'd like to get one with a navy frame for my Epic 3000SR but have only seen a darker gray (likely for the gray Epic series & Proluxes), a lighter gray (likely for the Epic series from the 75th anniversary-era), and a powder blue (likely for the later white & light blue Epic series).

Were there other frame colors available?

Which filter?

Are you referring to the filter that fits on the outside of the motor housing or the one that goes in the bottom of the bag compartment? My Genesis LXe came to me with the latter and I've retrofitted my Discovery II with one as well. That said, your mention of the frame color makes me think you're looking for an external filter. I'm not sure when those debuted, but I did see one on a somewhat overpriced Epic (I think it was a 3500 but it might have been a 3000) at a thrift shop a couple of years ago. If I recall correctly, it also had a filter in the bag compartment.

Thanks for the responses, Edgar and Antoine.

Edgar, I was referring to the post-filter with the colored frame. I think the upright pre-filters were introduced in 1999 with the Lux 3000 model U110Y.

Antoine, According to the owners manuals there was no upright post-filter available on the Electrolux USA uprights until sometime after the Genesis series. So if they were available with the first Epic series models they would have been navy to match the casing.

The gray machines

Electrolux started selling kits for after filters during the gray color scheme. As far as I know, and I'm pretty sure of it, Electrolux never offered a kit to match the first Epic upright in dark blue. The starter kits came with the frame, which used really strong adhesive with a peel-off cover to attach to the body of the upright around the suction motor exhaust. You had one chance to get that on correctly. Once that was attached, it adhered strongly enough that the actual filters could be snapped out for changing without tearing off the mount.

These were introduced partway through the gray production years, and I'm pretty sure they became standard equipment on new machines after their introduction. I don't recall seeing an oyster/fog or newer machine without an after filter, but I might be wrong about that. I'm pretty sure Electrolux never stopped including the spongy pre-motor filter that sat underneath the bag over the intake.

Just like all of the again Electrolux machines, every color scheme of which I have liked, the replacements in the proper colors aren't available, so now the machines look ridiculous if you don't have a supply of the original filters, the worst example of which is the Guardian, which looks terrible with a completely different, and huge, HEPA filter atop it.

Hope that helps. I was at the peak of my Electrolux enthusiasm in the 90s when these things came out.

Thanks for the information, Patrick. I suspected that the afterfilters were introduced in the mid-1990s, when the gray cleaners were manufactured, but wanted verification.

I don't like mismatched colors, either, but I guess the powder blue color that was used in the 2000s will complement the navy.

My favorite color scheme of Electrolux USA plastic cleaners was oyster & fog.
