I thought I might take the time to share a solution I found to a problem I've had with my convertible. the base has had a hairline crack, which (from what I can tell) has affected performance almost siginificantly. I recently took it apart to clean it out (there was so much crap on the sides of the fan chamber! The crap looked like Thin Mint crumbs scraping it out). After cleaning it out, if was time to seal the crack. Duct tape was and NEVER will be the solution! No kind of tape (not even Flex Tape) will for that matter. I had a can of clear Flex Shot laying around, and knowing how well it has worked to seal leaks, cracks, and holes (believe me! I've tried it!), I figured "why not!?". So, I did one coat on the inside. 48 hours of curing, and it worked. But I still noticed some separation upon lowering the handle. So, I went ahead and applied a second coat of flex shot, this time on the outside of the fan chamber (on the bottom of the machine). another 48 hours, and Viola! Little-to-no separation! I noticed the performance increasing and a better carpet-to-plate seal when lowering it! The motor was unaffected, there's no strain, the fan doesn't hit it at all!Vibration had no effect either! Flex Shot is like a miracle product! While I could've used Flex seal, I had flex shot at the ready. So for those who have a crack in their convertible's base, try flex seal or flex shot to seal it up!
