Wondering if any of you flip over an area rug from time to time and vacuum the underneath.

Would it be counterproductive and draw top surface dirt deeper into pile from suction from underneath?  Or would it clean the underside and not allow dirt and dust from the floor under the rug to be sucked into the bottom of the rug and be therefore be the hardest to remove when regular vacuuming?
