The only vintage carpet shampoo system I am aware of is the Kirby Rug Renovator, which I believe made its first appearance in the mid 60's? Were there any other electronic home products made for cleaning carpets using soap and water prior to this, or during the 70's?

Thank you! I had not realized that there were so many. I am thinking of buying a vintage shampooer. I could not find a renovator for my Kirby D50, but there seems to be a fair amount of vintage floor cleaners on eBay from eureka, hoover, and electrolux.

I can't remember Eureka having a carpet cleaner back that far, but I'm sure they probably did make them then.

Sears had a Koblenz made carpet shampooer/floor polisher that probably dated back to the 70s at least and was made into the late 2000s at least.

Some of the early Kenmore Powerspray units did have a built in water heater, but I don't think they made that version for very long.

older cleaning systems

I think rug doctor came out with their first model in 1972, I remember seeing some shampoo machines in the 1980's that sprayed the soap on the carpet but they did not vacuum it up, I'm not sure what the idea was there unless you were supposed to use a regular vacuum later, although I've heard that vacuuming up carpet cleaners like that is not good for a regular vacuum and will clog it.
Is the rincen vac still around? I have never seen one but was always curious about them, I used to hear commercials about them growing up. I remember reading that the rug doctor machines actually do not have a shut off float valve so you really have to keep an eye on it while using it.

I remember those Rinse N Vacs being in grocery stores available for rent. They would either be at the front or on the shelf in the cleaning product aisle. Then the Rug Doctors took over and you don't see them anymore. In fact I'm not even sure they have Rug Doctors now, but haven't thought to look.
