A few years ago, at the convention meeting, we had 3 years of destinations already on paper. This year, it has happened again. We're planned for 3 years. After discussing it with a few members/friends, the topic of Scranton, PA came up. I'm 6 miles from Scranton.
We've been able to see a lot of the country by having these in various places. This (Scranton idea) MIGHT be the farthest East we'd have. To give some perspective, I'm 2.5 hours from New York City.... the backside of The Poconos. Some positive points are: there are 2 gorgeous hotels, 2 blocks apart, which have shuttle service AND are ONLY 3 miles from the airport. There's a Houdini Museum, an art museum, Baseball club, a casino (just down the road), a "living museum... the Lackawanna Coal Mine tour (this is an actual coal mine, once used when Anthracite coal was King ). I'm not sure how many would 'venture this far". I was told...several. So, I'm toying with the idea. It would also mean hosting something here in my home. My very close friend, Tom A. promised he would be MY guest, and help me here in my home. So, even though it's a few years out, I'm hoping folks will either talk me into it, Or OUT of it. |

Chicago and Milwaukee are considered Midwest,but they are to me more east than west. |

And, Allentown is just a little over an hour from me. It's very mountainous , scenic here. Mike Pletcher is still in A-Town.
There are some vac shops near me too. VAc Way, for example. It would be wonderful to have Tom here. Well, one way or another, he'll be here. I've been toying around with some ideas of neat things to do here. We'll see. |

I’ve never had an opportunity to attend any of the conventions (either the VCCC or the Tacony) mainly due to the distance from me and the lack of interest from my wife. If one was held here in the east, I would definitely be interested in trying to attend! I believe I’ve heard you’ve had them here in the past, but it was before I even knew you all existed! Please keep this thread updated, I’ll definitely be following it!

Join back up and come, that's not a bad drive, We went to the national Christmas Museum last year in Lancaster, love the Amish food, and all the antique shops. |

that would be great.Know that you'd be most welcome back into The V.C.C. The PA convention was AGES ago. Im sure that nothing has been on "our side" of the country in a while. Hoover's 100th birthday was probably the closest, followed by Kirby in Cleveland.
Not trying to 'fill the conventions with too much stuff', BUT, we always try to include local attractions, in addition to vac shops, local sights, visits to homes, etc. It's ALWAYS a very nice time, as is evident in all of our posts. My area is an old coal mining area, rich in history. We take all our area fro granted. Yes, it's not a huge metropolis like, say Chicago, but, it is very nice. It's VERY "hilly" around here. My home is just up the street from The Susquehanna River. Scranton, known as "The ELECTRIC CITY", is also a very nice, busy place. It's called The ELECTRIC CITY because it was the first city in the U.S. to use electric trolleys. thus, "electric". It's also home to Jesuit run "The University of Scranton", AND Marywood University, a 100 year old college run by The Sisters of The Immaculate Heart, commonly known as the "I.H.M s'. Montage ski resort is 4 miles from Scranton, and, there is a casino 9 miles away in addition to another one 50 minutes away. I'll post more info. Still not sure if it will be a "go", but.... I'm collecting data, etc. It would be great to meet you, Hans, in person. |

I've been wanting to go to a convention for years, but money is usually tight so I've been holding out for something closer to the west coast. Not much to see out here in Phoenix vacuum related, but maybe a convention in LA or Vegas where flights are cheaper? Or maybe Texas; that's closer to the center of the country.
I'll make it "back east" one day. Maybe in 4 years I can make it out to PA. |

A drive from Manhattan is 2 and a half hours. We even have bus service, if your adverse to driving. Hans, my late father was from Roxboro. WE still have family in Charlotte and Fayetteville. I think THAT is an 8 hour drive. Consider that.
The more people are talking, it seems very likely to happen. (Yikes) Of course, a lot can happen between now and then. But, you'd all be very welcome here in the Wyoming Valley. More details to come. Chad... let's talk about a lot of stuff , soon. |

Hans, I didn't get on a plane for the first time until after 9/11/01. I don't care to fly to the vacuum conventions because schlepping vacuums via shipping is costly and inconvenient. I also get anxiety in crowded airports, but despite being terrified of heights I do actually really love flying! Planes are FUN!
But anyway, I've heard rumors of Denver in the past, and even tried a gathering here a few times, once rather seriously, but its never materialized. It would be fun though, and all of us out here would enjoy it... |

@bagintheback
definitely haven't more on the west coast would be a big plus someplace like Nevada,Arizona,Colorado or Texas. It would be a big appeal to drive to a "free state" rather than having to surrender Safety and Security by going to New York. My vote would be Colorado considering it's one of the freest states in the Union. |
