Greetings from finally warm and gorgeous Michigan. I have purchased a very nice used Hoover Dial a Matic this week (the orange and beige) model and just have a few questions.

1. Are there any current cloth/HEPA type dust bags that would properly fit in this machine for increased air quality? I know that if I must use genuine Hoover bags to look on Ebay for the original green paper ones. However, I'm hoping some type of current vac's HEPA bags will work wonders in this machine. And any type of filter material for the bag compartment filter?

2. The machine shows very little scuff marks. However, what is a suitable brand and color of spray paint if I wanted to refurbish the brown nozzle section?

Thank you!

As far as the bag goes, wrap two turns of electrical tape around the bag spout. Then use a HEPA simplicity type a bag. It will work perfectly. I don't know the answer to the spray painting question because I have never spray-painted any of my vacuums.

Thanks Tom good to hear from you!!! Thank you. I have a few Simplicity bags around. They are awesome for filtration. Any ideas for pre-motor filter or will the Simplicity bag take care of most if not all issues?

Also, will the Simplicity extra long hose hit fit the Dial a Matic, or do I need to search for once elsewhere?

I thought that the original throw-away bags were gray with navy blue printing, or were they made after the green ones?

The green bags came later.

The newest bags are now white.
At Bag Plant, #2, there was still green paper on the rollers on the last day of production. That paper came from the Poconos.
That gray paper was very durable, indeed.

Why Yes Mich Vac Guy there are!!!

I use Simplicity/Riccar style A bags, upside down in the Dialamatics. They fit just fine. and becasue they are hepa they filter much better, and almost seem to have more suction this was. Hpe this Helps. Where are you BTW. Im in Ann Arbor!!!
