An odd bird, one of the Clarke 500 lookalikes! This one is called a Nilco 271 by Fakir. It runs well, just a little dirty. All I need is a belt and bags!

I got a brand new one of those a couple of weeks ago but haven't used it yet as it didn't have the correct bags with it and the spring that holds the bag to the handle was missing.

I have obtained a replacement spring and as soon as the bags arrive I will test it out. An unboxing video and full demo will be on my Youtube channel ibaisaic soon.

Hi,

Nice vacuums. I have a Nilco 171 I think it is off the top of my head. Similar vacuum except it has a lower profile hood.

I'll have to dig it out some time.smile

I got it from Ebay Germany, it runs on 220 but I bought a step up converter to operate it. It's a very cool machine!

Clarke 500???

Back in the 80's Clarke made an upright similar to the 500 but is was plastic and designed to be lightweight. Does anyone remember this model?

Vintagevaclover,

I did see the one you're talking about. The one I remember more resembles that 500 upright in design, but this one was lightweight. I worked at a hotel where the housekeepers had them on their carts. I'm thinking this one pre-dates the Eureka clones, It's a red machine with the handle release and power switch in the same location. It also has a round black dial for height adjustment.

Oh ok, I did notice that it had a Sanitaire bag on it. I'm not sure I've seen the one that you're talking about then. I've only ever seen a few Clarks. My good friend Ken Hedrick (PackardManKen) has an original red Clark 500 & I've seen one like the blue one pictured in this thread at the local vac shop (it was being serviced and wasn't for sale). Just out of curiosity, which hotel did you work in? I too work in a hotel.
