With more thanks to Tom Gasko than he will ever know, I now have in my possession, what (in my humble opinion) is one of the absolute most beautiful vacuum cleaners EVER built. Thanks to his generosity I have sitting before me, a PRISTINE, UNUSED, Electrolux Commemorative Edition vacuum. This baby is complete with all attachments, and he even threw in some genuine Electrolux bags. I couldn't be happier with it, in fact at the moment, it is sitting in my office on display for all to see! My co-workers who aren't really that interested in vacuum cleaners have all talked about what an amazingly beautiful machine it is! One said, "it looks just like one my grandmother had....well only much more shiny and prettier!" I am on cloud-nine to say the least.....this has COMPLETELY made my week! One thing I'd like to point out, in photo 4 especially, note this machine does NOT have the award plaque that other Commemorative Editions had, as it was NEVER awarded to anyone!

How much time and effort must have went into making these special vacuums. According to Tom's VDTA article about them published in 2012, only 500 of them were made to begin with, and 20+ years later, you have to wonder just how many are still in existence today? I'm sure back then, the salesman/branch manager didn't see the future significance of them (they were just another vacuum that could be sold) and sold them to the public, or perhaps put them into service themselves. Even though they're high quality, durable machines, I imagine many were still worn out and tossed in the trash. Counting the club's Commemorative, I only know of a handful to even exist. They're so rare, some of the folks on here didn't even know about them, come to think of it, I didn't know they existed until a few years ago!

I'm so happy it arrived safely. I used a ton of bubble wrap to make sure nothing happened to it.
The VCCC does have the Commemorative Edition that I talked Electrolux into giving me way back in 1999. As President of the VCCC, I chose where the club's convention was going to be every year (I was President for six years). I talked Electrolux into letting the club come to the factory. We were all to bring our favorite model Lux, and we placed them on a long table in the lunch room for the employees to see. Lux treated us to lunch and we had a factory tour. I walked the factory with the Plant Manager and the then-President of the Company. When we got to the display room of all the former models, I noted the Commemorative Edition - the only model I'd never seen before. After much pleading, I convinced them to give me one (they had a couple left in the warehouse that were not awarded). That became the "club" Lux - which has now been dragged around the country several times. I don't know what happened to it, as I do NOT belong to the VCCC (and have NOT for the past 8 years). Once I met Rich Luisi (Vice President of Aerus - Sales), I asked him if he would check the warehouse to see if the one or two models they still had left were there. Sure enough, there was ONE. Rich has been VERY KIND to me with regard to Electrolux memorabilia. I had the Commemorative Edition for the past 4 or 5 years and never took it out of the box. I'm so happy it's with its new owner - who will cherish it as a very rare piece of Electrolux history. I'm all about making people happy - if I can help someone out I'll certainly do my best to try. |
