So this 4th of July, I visited my grandmother's house to celebrate my birthday. Before our party that night, I decided to vacuum one of the rugs with her Shark Navigator Lift-Away Deluxe.

The big problem was, the rug was so thick, I had a hard time pushing the Shark. It took quite a bit of pushing force. Pulling it back was a bit easier. Even opening the suction release collar on the handle didn't make pushing any easier.

I think it has to do with A) the Shark not having a manual height adjustment and B) the immense suction power of the machine. Now, do any Shark vacuum owners have this much trouble using their vacuums on deep pile carpeting?

Below is a pic of my grandmother's vacuum. You can see a little bit of the rug I vacuumed in the bottom-right corner of the pic.

They do some clamping due to the non adjustable base and the normally pretty small base too, I THINK

I gave my aunt my Shark Navigator Pro Lift Away when she put frieze in her living room. It was the only vacuum that we tried that wasn't hard to push. She had a Eureka Airspeed Gold, trying to push that on the frieze was like trying to push an Escalade up a steep hill.

The carpet in my aunt's living room is about as thick as your grandmother's.

Maybe it's hard to push for you, because your grandmother has an area rug. It's not stuck down to floor, so it is getting sucked into the vacuum??

Most likely

However, my grandmother has hired a housekeeper. She said that I didn't have to vacuum, as the housekeeper would come today, but I wanted to do it to make the rug look nice before our party.

My grandmother has other rugs like that throughout her entire downstairs, which are all hardwood.
