I thought I posted this query earlier today but it doesn't show up...sorry if this is a duplicate post.

The G4 Belt Lifter needs to be wire brushed to remove rust and corrosion, sprayed with lacquer, silicone lube and reassembled. It is fastened to the square knob with a coarse screw. I have tried to separate knob from hook but threads are tight so I applied LiquidWrench penetrating oil and let it soak awhile. The metal plate has two small holes as if to accommodate a curved "Y" wrench for removal. If there is a rule or guide to follow for this procedure please somebody in the group tell me. Thanks.

The screw head is underneath the sticker on front of the nozzle. Search eBay for a Kirby G4 belt lifter, and you'll see how it goes together.

Here's from the parts book. The belt lifter is the new style because they no longer offer the square gray G4 belt lifter. You can get an idea as to how it all fits together.

Belt lifter has been serviced and works smoother.

The task was fairly simple. I buffed the hook with a brass wire brush and did not need to spray with lacquer as originally anticipated. All parts were cleaned with WD40 and wiped dry, assembled and job is complete. For a vac that's run often this task would be smart to do once a year or whenever a vac comes in for service.

Several parts for the G3 belt lifter group used to be the same as for models Heritage I/Legend II when the G3 originally came out in 1990.
