I bought a Royal canister off of ebay. Needless to say, I'm never buying a vac off of ebay again. The vacuum came with one of the prongs on the plug connecting to the handle burned. It will now short out. I was sorry to see that the cord has been discontinued, but does anybody know where I could get a new part? I am keeping the machine with just a partail refund due to the rediculous expense to ship it back to california. The hose luckily didn't burn too much so I think that can be saved. I appreciate any help. I'm bumbed that it's such a nice vacuum, and I can't use the powerhead. Thank You! - Mitchell

Sorry you had a bad experience.
Ebay can be hit or miss, I have bought several vacuums off Ebay and have never been burned. For the most part I have received as good or better than I thought I was bidding on.

That is interesting!

With all but 2 machines I have bought on ebay I have had some level of dis-satisfaction. I'm not crying about it though, it was a bad buy and i've learned from it. I'll wait to see a part for it turn up, it'll come eventually.

You should really file a case, I've never had to pay the return shipping through ebay. There is a member on here who I've bought machines from and they were not even close to the description, they were dirty too and ebay sent me a shipping level.

I guess what I'm getting at is don't let a couple of transactions ruin it for you, I mean where else can you find some rare machines without driving to a million different vac shops. Just a thought from someone who's gotten some really f-ed up machines from even more f-ed up sellers.

I decided to keep it.

The seller already issued a partial refund so it is basically too late. At least I can still use the canister. Obviously, the seller was oblivious to noticing that the vacuum had a serious problem. When I find more time in my later life, I may go back to ebay for vacuums, but for now, it's not worth the time for me- Mitchell

Here is the plug

fantomfan's profile picture
It didn't burn a lot, but enough for it to short out. It's a shame that this had to happen to such a fine, quality vacuum cleaner. I think that the hose is OK, the plug got more damage to it. The hose looks better than that in the picture, after cleaning it up a bit.

Does the cord

Go all the way to the power nozzle? Or does it have another connection point on the bottom end of the wand? If it's the one piece cord I do have one. It's black rather than blue. Royals last available color before fully discontinued. I would still want to replace the hose or at least the plug. Just for safety reasons and best not to burn out a new cord that hard to find. I have seen several hoses on eBay for reasonable.

Unfortunately, it is the two piece wand.

I'll try and get a new plug for the hose. I'll figure that out the next time I go to the vac shop. If I cannot fix the plug, i'll buy another hose on ebay- Mitchell

Looks like a kenmore pansonic plug

I have worked on several of these that plug should be the same as a kenmore or panasonic powernozzle.

I have 2 spare Kenmore hoses

fantomfan's profile picture
I took them out, but they would not work with a Royal plug. The royal plug's prongs have a larger gap between the two. Would a kenmore lower wand fit on a royal powerhead, and then put a Kenmore connector inside the hose? It could then use Kenmore wands and the Royal hose, but with a Kenmore plug? I don't have a lower Kenmore wand so I can't figure it out.

Check out the oreck Lx

I was tearing down several Oreck xl uprights with the switch on the handle and it looked like the prongs on the handle plug were the size you might be looking for.

No way the Oreck plug will fit in the end of the Royal hose... And unfortunately they do not make these parts anymore, either the wiring harness for the handle or the lower wand with the cord. Its sad, but true. :(

New Wand and Hose on order!

fantomfan's profile picture
I found a seller on ebay with a Royal Stark hose and wand. They are identical to my hose and wand except for the color. They are in excellent condition with no burns. I will post later how it works out.
