Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to introduce myself and ask what is probably a dumb question.

Will the attachments from the Classic III fit on the Legend II?

I can find all sorts of attachments for the Classic III on Craigslist and eBay but cannot seem to find many for the Legend. I don't really need them all but I would like to be able to vacuum the baseboards and blinds using the hose.

Thanks in Advance!
Garrett

I'm sorry, but they won't! The safety-switch (little thing that makes sure you can't run the vacuum without it's cleaner head or hose attache) was re-designed on the Heritage in 1981. the Classic III and the Legend II are a full 13 years apart! The Classic III hose will not activate the safety-switch on the Legend II, unfortunately.

check out my reply in your Supermarket thread! wink

Congratulations on your first Kirby!

No,Classic III attachments will only fit, the Classic I, Classic Ω. You need to find the attachments to either a Heritage I, Heritage II, Heritage II Legend, those all will fit your Legend II. The Legend II is one of my favorite Kirby's, and one of the first I had, and still have to this day. Such a beautiful color. Enjoy yours!

Thank you for the welcome, Doug!

I purchased the Legend II from bearsdei8. He has another NICE one on there now that shows it being taken apart and very clean. I'm not sure if he changed/checked the brushes or bearings but for the price and overall condition of the vacuums I can't complain either way.

Happy Thanksgiving!

The Vacuum arrived today (finally). As expected, the promises of "clean and fresh" were a bit over zealous but other than that it arrived as promised. I have unpacked it and ran it over two rugs and two bedrooms with carpet and the attached photo is what I picked up. Mind you, my house is clean, or so I thought!

Of course, I have been using an Oreck XL for two and a half years in this home and this is what it has been leaving behind. I knew Kirbys were excellent cleaners but I was NOT expecting this!

By the way, the bag you see cut open came with the vacuum and seeing it was not a genuine Kirby I opted to remove it and discard now that I have the outer bag in the washer. I have some paper (I know I need the HEPA) Micron Magic bags ready to go. They will be just fine for me until I use the three as I have no allergies.

Is it necessary to clean the mini emptor? Mine has some slight caking but I removed that with a flat screwdriver and now it's just kinda dirty. What's the best way to tackle that?

I see that the little green brush roll light is not illuminating. Could this be because someone replaced the brush roll with a generic one? Never-the-less, I need to order one of those four row brushes I have read about on here.

And finally, can someone tell me if something is missing in the last photo?

Other than that if anyone has any advise please feel free to share with the newby!

Garrett

Garrett,

Yes, something is indeed missing in that last picture. It's the handle lock button, which allows the handle to be lowered down enough for you to clean under tables.

The parts you want are:
136688 - handle lock button, maroon
136979 - handle lock shaft

I just got the bag back on after washing and ran it again. Is this dust build-up normal? I feel like something is leaking. Could this be the seal in the mini em-tor?

Hi Garrett

kirbymodel2c's profile picture

I'm sure you will be happy with your new Kirby. Just make sure you only use genuine Kirby parts like bags and belts.

I'd also replace the brush roll with a genuine one. Just make sure your em tor isn't damaged and the seal is not worn or split.

That dust build up is definitely not normal! Something is leaking somewhere.

Check to see if the inner bag is installed properly onto the fill tube.

Check to see if inner bag is punctured or torn.

Check mini emptor gasket.

Good luck!

The inner bag is spotless as is the fill tube. I cleaned that very well so that i could tell if there were any leaks in the bag. It is still shiny and black so I checked the emptor area with it running and could feel wind blowing out of it! It IS installed correctly so it must be the gasket. I will order one today.

What is the PN for the BEST brush roll for the Heritage II ? I will go ahead and order one of those as well.

Thank you ALL for your assistance!
Garrett

And make sure there are no cracks in the plastic Mini-Emptor itself.Look it over carefully-make sure there are no hairline cracks-esp at the fancase connector end.
