I bought a new vacuum, especially when I need to thin the herd. This was an impulse buy. I went into Home Depot to get a furnace filter and some light bulbs. They had a huge display of Hoover Air Steerables and the Steam Scrub Pro steam mop. The vacuum was $98.00 and the steam mop was $49.00. These are new, not refurbs. I passed on the steam mop, been there, done that, rather use my mop with Spic n Span on my kitchen and bathroom floors. I picked up a vacuum after checking the return policy, which is 90 days with receipt, so I thought I'd give it a try. I've had all kinds of bagless, only survivor in my collection is a Fantom Lightening, but wanted to see what the average consumer would think I guess. I have a lab mix shedder and always use the best bags available with any of my other vacuums. I'm going to give this one a month's trial and see what I think, for the price, and return policy, not much to risk. Stay tuned!

The same deal is going on at the Home Depot here. I was a little tempted myself. Which model did you get? The plain Steerable model felt a little cheap, but I was very impressed with the Pro and cordless model. I'm very curious to see how you like it.

I just bought the Vax Air Cordless (similar to Hoover's Windtunnel Air cordless) and its pretty good.

 I said I wasn't buying any more vacuums, then bought three.
1. Lux Guardian Platinum
2. Vita-Vac
3. Meile S194 Sidestep

Now I am not buying any more vacs, unless a stainless Connie shows up. . .

Rick, I think you will like the air, I had one of the originals and found it a great performer. Glad to hear the new vacuum bug bit you! I will admit, i'm tempted by home depots offer myself.

Sebofan, I do hope a review of the air cordless is in the future!

Scott, I've already made a few notes on here regarding the Vax Cordless Air, but my mammoth worded review is still being compiled together. Im learning the SLOW process of how to be succinct, but its kinda hard when the brand leaves out important things that have to be said : )

Update.....

 I gave the Windtunnel Air Steerable a try, using it about every other day keeping up with my lab mix leaving her trail behind her! I did like a few things about it. Lightweight, the steerable feature, and a nice length cord. The brushroll seemed to pick up well, however did not leave the grooming marks that I like from other machines. I liked it on the bare floors ok. I tried using the hose a couple of times, didn't mind the fact of having to transfer the connection, not a big deal. There was good suction on the hose end, but found myself running for a full size dusting brush and upholstery nozzle from other vacs. Now the bagless part comes into play. The bottom had a very weak latch, can only imagine won't be long for it to fail, not the mention it's at the bottom of the container. I was never able to get all the pet hair to release from the inside, sticking to the sides and the vented cone thingy, and some lodging in around the very top where the closure did not appear to have an even seal. Whenever in the upright position running, there was a whining sound like cheap plastic against plastic, and would only cease if I tilted it side to side. Another annoyance were the wheels, I believe the ones on the power nozzle. Whenever I pulled back, they made noise like squeaky wheels would make. The true test is when I took out my Compact C80-2 with a fresh bag so I could see what might be left behind. I was amazed of what it picked up, even besides the pet hair, so a deep cleaner it is not. The quality of plastics seemed cheap and brittle, and won't last long with a vacuum abuser, or say a person with an active household. It was like a deluxe electric broom to me, but wanted to see what the consumer would be getting these days from a TTI product...now I know.

As the owner of the Vax version, there's velvet like static strip by the open brush roll on the base plate that grooms my carpets in terms of leaving a stripe due to that velour alone.

The bottom release with its weak latch is welcomed in my home. I had the Mach Air corded version where the bottom trapdoor failed to open! Mine whistles from time to time - it might be the rectangular rubber seal connection from the back of the fixed hose meeting the bin at the side at the top.

Im not convinced however that this cordless upright IS NOT a deep cleaner. Having vacuumed the floors with the cordless upright removed a lot of dust and then I tried vacuuming with my SEBO Felix and very little excess dirt was picked up.

IMHO the Cordless Air isn't that well built but it is no different to any one of the cordless uprights on the market, maybe aside from the Bosch Athlet cordless upright.

The Hoover Air Steerable is a corded vacuum, at least on this side of the pond. The cordless version is the Air Cordless I believe.

Yes, you're right. I got confused - sorry.

Mind you, I have tried the swivel version of the Vax and Im not a fan of it - it fails to lock up properly when putting it back into the upright position. I much prefer the fixed versions - they feel a lot better made.
