I have an old Hoover Convertible (the Agnes Moorehead model) that I bought used in a thrift store 3 years ago. It had been modified with a newer long cord and a Type A topfill bag assembly. I use this vacuum only to vacuum my front porch. The porch is subject to pine needle debris (both the fine dust and the needles). I pick up most longer needles with my fingers, then use the Convertible to vacuum up the rest. The dust permeates EVERYTHING in my house, but the reason for this post is this:

Any ideas about how I should clean this bag? As you can see from the 2 pictures, it takes on the fine dust in the outer bag. I regularly clean the rest of the cleaner to prevent accumulations, but I've been on the fence about how to wash the outer bag. Any suggestions? Some further info: I have a front-loading LG washer, and no real utility sink to soak anything in. Could I use the delicate setting on the LG? Note that this bag has one of those dang infernal plastic bag hangers, which I hate.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions, folks.

Just use the kitchen sink! Soak it in some dawn, bags come out brand new! Rinse with warm water!tongue-out

Yes, I agree . . .

I've had success with a couple of dirty outer bags. I used the laundry tub in the basement, filled halfway with warm water and Dawn dish detergent. I then let the bag soak a few minutes, and then dip it in and out of the water to provide a bit of agitation. Rinse well with cool water. You'll be surprised at what all comes out.

I have always just thrown outer bags in the washing machine (we have a Maytag front loader) and I have never had any issues. Then I toss it in the dryer on the air dry setting for a few hours and the bag is as good as new!
