Hi there! I'm hoping the Fantom experts (I can tell you the history of Fantom forwards, backwards, and in 8mm format, but this is my first Fantom tear-down!) can clue me in on wiring!

If there's one (and only!) thing I dislike about rebuilds, it's having to tear something down again due to a mis-calculation! my calculation in this case is that the 2 yellow wires from the motor serve as 2 neutrals, and are connected to the neutral bus, along with the neutral from the headlamp. on the hot bus, I have the motor, headlamp hot, and the 2 thermal protection wires installed, As so

HOT BUS-[*][&] [^][*]

NEUTRAL BUS-[%][%] [$]

Key-

[*]-Thermal protection

[&]-Motor hot

[^]-Headlamp hot

[%]-Motor neutral 1 & 2

[$]-Headlamp neutral

(For those who don't understand basic ASCII representatives, ask and you shall receive a picture!)

Thanks!

-Alex.

Unless someone chimes in before me I have one in the garage that needs a tear down to unclog and clean. I can tell you what wires where when I do it. It has been so long that I had a Thunder in need of more than a belt or simple unclogging I'm not so sure what the wiring sequences are anymore. Bear in mind I have 20 or more Thunders, virtually all purchased second hand, and have not had to do a total tear down since 2002! Write down the wiring sequence in the future. You may find an additional Thunder in the future, but it is by far their most reliable model. I still actively use three despite the relative rarity. When I bought my house 5 years ago I bought a Fantom (this was a pristine Thunder that looked like it was used twice) and two Rainbows at thrift stores within a month. I said I wouldn't need to buy a vacuum any time soon. I still use those three vacs. One Rainbow upstairs, one downstairs, the a Thunder for a quick job downstairs a Dyson DC07 upstairs for a quick job. I picked up another excellent Thunder in recent months and have been alternating the two.

Well nobody helped me

super-sweeper's profile picture

So I helped myself by tearing into Thunder #1 (Of 2 Thunders!).

Here's one of my Famous not-so-well-made Illustrations for future reference of

civilians who find themselves in the same quarrel I did!

This is the wiring on the under-side of the circuit! If you're looking for wiring the top part, The neutral from the cord will connect to the terminal above the 4 Neutral terminals on the bottom of the circuit board. Connect Hot to the terminal above the 3 Hot Terminals! Have fun, and good luck Future VacuumLanders!tongue-out
