That's a Miele S514 Solaris Electro Plus

sleepdoc's profile picture
It was the TOL Solaris series. They made a yellow straight suction Solaris, a very light blue Solaris Turbo Plus that had a turbine carpet nozzle, and yours, which has a 217 power nozzle. It's from around 2004, probably, but the tag on the bottom will tell you the year and the quarter of that year in which it was manufactured. Yours has the 1100-watt motor, so it's one of the older ones; the later ones had 1200-watt Vortex motors and direct-connect hose, wand, and power nozzle. I think they retailed for around $600, so you got a good deal on a vacuum that will last forever it the previous owner took good care of it.

I loved the S500 and S600 vacuums. They were wonderful.

Wow!  That's a great find!!!  I love my Mieles -- they're quiet and powerful.  That powernozzle isn't bad for low to medium pile carpeting, either.

Congratulations, Hans!

217 power nozzle

sleepdoc's profile picture
That power nozzle is wonderful for anything other than very thick carpeting. It's quiet, has a protected geared belt, very good powernozzle.

A correction.

sleepdoc's profile picture
I apologize for the error: your power nozzle is a 213, not 217, the difference being that yours has an external power cable, whereas the 217 is direct connect. As far as I know, everything else I said about the 217 applies to the 213.

I saw a Miele at a thrift store on Thursday

for $10.00 I was amazed! I dated someone yrs ago (breakup of the century) who had one. Both turned out to be underwhelming.

Miele find

Hans,
I am in shock! Such a new vacuum for your taste.

John,
When you say "underwhelming" are you referring to it's build quality, performance or features? Or are you talking about the break-up?
I can see where it could have been BOTH. Just kidding.
Rob

Well, the hose (on the cleaner) was awful.

"Mummy" was trying to "dump some $$$", so bouth this Miele (have to have the biggest/best) sound familiar?
I had to run it a few times. It wasn't everything I'd heard it to be. But then, again, NOTHING in that house was!! :((

Hans, I'm shocked you let something that new into your house! Are you beginning to get a soft spot for modern cleaners? ;)

Last of the best Miele's

I totally agree with Dan,

These models were the last of the good Mieles, I have a Red Cat&dog S500 and its a good vacuum. Nothing like the S5 that replaced it in our market which just fall apart.

A very good deal because,

I have the identical Miele and I payed $1100 for it 6 years ago !!
Yikes!

I'm not overly impressed with it over all,

However,

I bought my best friend ( she)a smaller Miele vac at the same time I got the Solaris Electro plus.

I payed $649 for hers ( a smaller melon yellow Hera)

Out of these two Mieles, I prefer the smaller one.
It seems to be built better and moves around the house like a breeze.

My friend uses her Miele twice a day ( vacuuming mostly laminate floors and the dog hair from 2 golden labs!)
constantly for the past 6 years and it runs like the day it was new!

Hans, these have a date code on the info label. Take a pic of the sticker on the bottom and I'll tell you how old it is. This model came out in 2000 and was discontinued in 2006. Yours has the 1100 watt 2 stage motor, the later version came with the 1200 watt single fan Vortex motor, at the time they made that switch they also included a direct connect wand setup with the 217-2 rather than the 213-2 that yours has. I have a 2006 version, was the first Miele I got, bought it new (for wholesale obviously) when I first started working where I do now, it was out very last 50 series machine, we sold all the rest and brought in the newer S5s that replaced them.
