I love the design of the older Eureka Roto-Matic vacuum cleaners and two that I have wanted to add to my collection were the red 800a and the gold crown models. I never dreamed that I would run across both of them within the same week AND end up getting BOTH of them! I haven't received them yet, but here's a couple seller photos of them! I am super excited about getting these!

I have missed out on this model several times on eBay, so glad I decided to place a bid on this one!

Super finds, Steve. I share your joy at obtaining these two beauties.
That era of Eureka 'tub canisters' were unsurpassed for style, power, capacity and one-board tool racking.

Montgomery Ward Roto-Matic on eBay

I saw a Wards version on eBay, placed bid, been outbid & unfortunately didn't win the Wards Roto-Matic.

The Gold Crown model from Ben about a year ago.  I love it!

Had the bearings replaced, put on new hose and it is a workhorse.

Enjoy yours!

I had a question about the roto-matics, and I was wondering if someone could help me out regarding the first model posted in this thread; the red one. Did these also come in a blue version?? Same design but blue?!

Thanks!
Daniel :-)

Yes, Made 1952---

Thru 54 or 55, im not sure when the red one came out, They used the old 4250 Lamb motor, when the red one came out they switched to the then new 4450.The machine looked the same, just hammertone blue with no dolly.Same attachments.

Right you are, Ken, as always.

While the Eureka tubs have rubber gasketed large cotton dust bags surrounding the motor this is meant more as a motor filter. Both machines were meant to use a similar sized paper insert (similar to a Compact) that are not as hard to find today as you might think. Your best bet is the musty backroom shelves of older independent vac and hardware shops that have not yet tossed inventory from the 50s & 60s. Iirc, the larger capacity tub was known as the Super Roto-Matic.
I finally scored a blue one, really more of a gray blue, on a memorable vacuum quest just outside Syracuse NY in 2011.

As you see I also found an elusive until then Singer Tub and most exciting of all to me, a fabled late 1952 Electrolux XXX in blue livery to match the new LX. These were new machines still at the factory as the LX came available. It was marketed as the downscale option and are even scarcer than hen's teeth with the blue krinkletone paint and the blue leatherette LX pattern topside.

Dave, endlessly fascinated by the variations.
