Evidently it was stored for twelve years in the original box!

Looks like a killer deal: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hoover-PowerMax-...

Brendan - this is a great post!

But you should try to add any eBay posts to the thread already started. Just scroll down and look for "Modern eBay Thread #1" - I'll post the link below....

If you see any interesting auctions on eBay or Craigslist for older vacs, you can find a similar thread in the "Vintage" section called "Vintage eBay Thread #3" (we are already on a third thread there because the first two were getting quite long)....

Also - it's best if you copy the website address for the eBay listing and paste it into the window entitled "URL Link to share" - this way all we need to do is click on the link and a new window opens up with your selected web-page.

Hope this helps, my friend! :-) If I had the room, I'd bid on that Hoover! :-D

If You....

....Value your health, safety and sanity, do NOT buy one of these machines. I'm serious.

My late partner had one, purchased new. It quickly developed a habit of wearing through its PN cord where the cord came out of the PN head, because the exit angle of the cord was such that it rubbed the floor during use, and wore through. The first time I discovered the problem, I shortened the cord, figuring he'd done something unusual with the PN and caused the problem himself.

Two months later, he told me the cord was worn through again. I checked, and was absolutely APPALLED - bare wire was showing through this time - there was no good reason there hadn't been a fire. Again, I shortened, cautioned him, and hoped that would fix things.

Well, it kept on happening, and after about the fifth time, there was not enough cord left to shorten it further. That meant a new cord, which is no problem, right? WRONG. The PN cord was a three-wire cord, absolutely proprietary - it was buy it from Hoover or do without.

We did without. There were so many other problems and frustrations with that vac it got broken up before being put in the trash, so that no poor person would find it and be endangered by it.

Don't. Do. It.
