Hi can anyone tell me where the rating plate is on an Electrolux 502?
just got one today off Ebay for a whopping 99p it runs great but i think i,ll get it serviced though. Its also missing its furniture guard, how easy are these to get?

Here it is.

The rating plate should be on the motor hood, behind the handle / box. They used to be on the box in the early days, opposite to where they are on the motor hood. I don't know why it got moved but you'll see the outline. You stand little chance of getting a new furniture guard and old ones are usually worn. But unlike the 504 which was tan, the 502 was dark brown, almost black, and much easier to replace as you can modify one from a Hoover Junior.

Yep, that's it!

And yours was made in February of 1980 if I am not mistaken.

Without taking the motor out, you can't tell how old it is. By 1979 the 502 was being made with one long strip down the front, just like the 504. This one still has the old 500 style box.

Ah, I thought the Serial Number told you how old it was.

The first number being the year and the second two being the month.

No, that is how Hoover does it. Electrolux used to put a date on the sticker on the motor. But it is not common for manufacturers to put a date on things in general.

Ah I see. Not that Mark probably cares, but if he wanted to find out the age, would it be hard to see the sticker on the motor ?

Well I suppose that depends on how good his eye sight is. The writing will be small. Also I cannot remember what year Electrolux started labeling their motors.
