I stopped in one of the local vac shops today and walked out with this beauty for $20! It was sitting in the front room and I asked him it was his, when he said it was I told him I was interested it. He said I could take it for $20 since it was a trade in. I know how messy the dust cup models are, but I have always wanted one for some reason. It's really dirty, but it runs like a champ, just needs a new belt! Surprisingly, there are no rips in the cord, at all. I'll post a few pictures of it after I'm done cleaning it up.

Chase, Nice find! The bag actually does not look that bad and a good polish and clean of everything Im sure it will come out as nice as your other vacs!

Nice Find Chase!!

I'm really not that big into sanitaire's mostly because I already have a commercial and household upright that work great so I don't really need more lol.
But for $20 that's a really good find for a good reliable machine!

Really like the smooth metal on the hood. It looks so retro. We bought a Hoover guardsman for use in our lab. The dust cup is pretty messy to empty. Wish I could have found the bagged model online through our company. The sanitaire may have a better dust cup system.

The Hoover dust cup system is MUCH better than the Sanitaire. It is way more user friendly, doesn't seem to leak as much dust, and it is nowhere as messy. You could probably get a new bag for the Guardsman that takes bags, that's probably something I'd do.

Both setups leak dust, so, they're both flawed (the Sanitaire cos it's got such high airflow, and the Hoover just hasn't got good bag material), I suppose it's their attempts at what Kirby had done for many decades previously, having a shakeout bag over a collection vessel that you emptied out after every use, but didn't quite work so well, but still, shakeout bags, as handy as they are when you've run out of bags, leak regardless of the vacuum make... :\

Personally, I'd say, yep, that looks cool, and then buy a nice shiny new ST bag setup for it, like this one in the link below, I'll be doing so with my Electrolux C12 as it is shakeout-only as-is, mainly to calm it down cos the damned thing likes to wander off on it's own if I let go of the handle!!! :P

Kloveland

You can get a shake out bag or a Type A top fill bag assembly for the Guardsman. All you need to do is go to the local vacuum shop or one on line.

The owners manual for the machine will have optional dust collection systems listed in the book.
