The last time I saw one of these I was a wee little fella, 3 or 4 years old.  The memory of the brown color, side-mounted bag and front-mounted rocker switch has stuck with me for over 50 years.  Thanks to ebay, this Christmas I'm feeling like a little kid again.

Soft, supple cord

...with the original plug and clip.  Even the UL paper stickers are still wrapped around the cord!

Bag

The bag is very faded from its original dark brown color but only minimally frayed and the MW emblem is still intact.

an early "swivel-glide"

The rear castor-wheel and the height adjustment knob

not a good "edge cleaner"

The bumper has some serious dry-rot but the brush roll still has lots of life left.  I'm bowled-over by how clean the whole thing is.  This was either trapped between coats in a closet for decades or the seller did a great job of cleaning it up before shipping.

I'm still in shock...

...that I finally found this after 50-some years of cherished memories.  Friends of my parents had one and whenever we went to their house I kept myself happily entertained with it while the adults had their "coffee talk."

Yes, Neil, that switch especially looks like Apex styling. However, the nozzle sure smacks of Eureka styling too. What an unusual machine. Good for you that you found such a strong childhood piece of memorabilia. - J

An Apex on ebay bears more than a little resemblance

My Montgomery Ward is in much better shape!

I'm thinking that this is a 1930s design which, in the case of mine was carried forward when production resumed after WWII.  The brown color of the MW resonates with many other vacuums of the post-war era.

Now, to find the relevant MW catalogue to confirm when mine was being sold!
