Ii had a question about the Kirby Dual Sanitronic 50.I recently found a Tan Model that seems to be in good condition externally but when it starts it whistles after it gets up to full speed it stops and then does it again as it slows down to a stop.Funny really it sounds like a jet aircraft. My question is are the Bearings failing or has anybody experienced this due to the fan plate rubbing.I kind of figured if it was the fan plate on the axle it would do it all the time.Is it time for a rebuild or just a good cleaning?

Bad bearings

I think you're right about the bearings needing to be replaced I had a similar problem with my Classic 1cr and changing the bearings stopped the noise. Good luck, and nice find by the way, I'm still looking for a Dual Santronic for my collection.

I didn't quite understand what you said. Does it stop on its own and then wind down?

Thanks it since then stopped doing it so much every now and then it will .What it was doing was when it started it wounded up like a jet plane starting then after it had reached full speed it no longer whistled. The when you shut it off it slowed down then made the same whistleing noise.I take it the bearings may be worn. Thanks I thought it was a decent find for ten bucks with an extra bag and not much corrosion.I've been looking for a Dual Sanitronic 50 for a while that's in good shape.

Ha ha! That's it! Thank's Ben. Cool video too but mine seems louder than that sometimes.I actually took the vacuum to a local shop and they told me it was just the way the older vacs ran is all.I started it up and the service repair man actually said it was in pretty good shape all in all and he did say it was well cared for over the years. One of the best ones he seen in a while. So I guess my ten dollar investment wasn't a bad deal after all and I've been wanting a tan one for a while. He commented that he'd give me more than that for it if I ever wanted to part with it.
