Gloriously red
There were two red finishes for this cleaner, the later one does not have the stripy material. needless to say, that is still on the want list. There was also black and olive green in this finish. Although the cleaners were quite grubby when I got them they both cleaned up well and run well too - one is somewhat older than the other, but actually runs the best of the two

A while back I posted about finding an earlier version of this cleaner, which had been on my want list from the start too - I only found out about this later model about 2 or three years ago, when ChesterMike turned one up. The earlier one was the one I really wanted but I could not resist this when it came up

This was a BOL cleaner
The whole scale of this cleaner is small, with short hose and wands.
By 1960 Pheonix were in their death throes - they lasted (I think) until about 1962. For years and years it seemed than Pheonix produced two cannister cleaners, both with the same motor although one cleaner was larger than the other. The nozzles were of the most basic being of a similar deaign to the earliest electroluxes - no swivel, no tread catcher, nothing. In the 1950s they produced a copy of the Universal bullet shaped machine, but still the same crappy tools. Perhaps in a last ditch attempt to survive, towards the end they produced a whole range of machines - all still quite cheap but it was not enough to save them. They were also amongst the first to manufacture machines for private labels such as Gamages and many other department stores
