Oh i know!
A very nice hoover junior 1346A. Its in great condition, the blue bag has no rips and is very clean in and out.
I just need help with a few things. With todays couriers you buy an item and expect it broken upon arrival. Just like my hoover junior :(
Around where the handle goes in the plastic body, the casing has a large semi circle shaped crack. Absolutly gutted!
Anyone have a spare casing for a 1346 in good condition or any other junior you wouldnt mind selling. Evan if you know someone just ask, i am willing to pay for it and postage.
Here are some pictures of the damage:

Jake, That vac looks great! Just a question for ya. Where did you get the stand that its on? Is it plexi glass? Im looking for one for my eureka upright.

Thanks, Daniel

Hey

Yes i think it is plexi glass. I got it for free from my grandad who owns a removal company. Wanna see the bissell rugs he got me too?

Nice. I love the vacs and the rugs. I'd like to find a Hoover rug someday. Its a shame things arrive damaged when you pay good money to have things shipped. Althought sometimes it had to do with how they are packed, and also there are soooo many packages that got round the world each day/hour/ min. Its a wonder how they get it all done. But still we do pay a bit for postage and handling.

Just put a bit of 2-part glue (such as araldite) into the crack, tap the back until the plastic pops back into place and wait for it to set up (24 hours) and then just carefully scrape off the excess, I learned a good tip for scraping, and that's to take the blade from a stanley knife, wrap tape evenly around both sides, leaving a few millimetres of blade in the middle, and then just scratch away, taking off a strip of tape to lower it, and it should leave barely a mark on the plastic... :)

I know what you mean about the Electrolux being a great cleaner.

My '82 502S 500 Watt that I got free from an old lady a few months ago works perfectly, and came with the hose, crevice tool, and the combo floor & brush tool.

And to top it off, it came with a pack of bags and a spare belt!

I used the cleaner today to vacuum the whole house as my bedroom in particular needed a good clean, and the TV, book case, bed side cabinet etc... had a lot of dust on them, but with the brush tool the Electrolux took it all in her stride.

God, I love Electroluxes!

Your Electrolux was our first Electrolux upright; the USA version was the Automatic upright?

@Floor-A-Matic I'm not sure, I thought it was still called by the same model number in the US/Canada but just branded as a VOLTA instead of ELECTROLUX...

If it was called the Automatic, I'm sure that was probably because of its automatic height adjustment.

I got a 1346A recently in great shape but its not going into retirement just yet i took it into work to use in my store, it will be treated with the respect it deserves but it will be worked hard.

@juniorsenior I'm very glad to hear that!

A lot of people get vintage cleaners and put them into retirement thinking they are doing something great, but 20-30 years down the line when they decide to sell them on and get some money for it, they put a new belt on, plug it in, then press the power button to hear nothing.

So, they take the belt off, and try to turn the impeller, but what do you know!? It has seized after sitting for 30 years stagnant!

And worse still, the bearings in the brush roll have dried out too.

If that cleaner had been in daily use with regular TLC, it would have still been roaring into life every morning and enjoying an active life.

But thanks to the owner's "investment", it seized up and required a new motor bearing and brush roll bearings to get it going again, costing him a lot of money, and his profit when he sold it dropped like a stone.

Sorry, I have a tendency to go on a bit, but hopefully you can see the point I'm making.

I hear what your saying. All my Hoovers get used daily but treated with respect and the wife does too unlike the Dyson which was bashed about all over the place and not treated well at all but that is now gone.
I like my things to be used and not static.
On another note i tried Shake and Vac today i have heard these are not good for your vacuum but i cant see the problem on older machines without filters just the new multifiltered new stuff.

I can't see Shake 'N' Vac being bad for any Bagged cleaner.

It is just Bagless cleaners that could get damaged by it.

As long as the bag is good quality (E.G. Nice and thick) I don't think any of the powder would get through.

I should really buy Shake 'N' Vac sometime and use my HOOVER Senior Ranger U4014 to vacuum it all up, and maybe even get my singing voice out while I'm at it.

I do fancy owning a Junior, but my wallet doesn't sadly.

And yes, the Ranger video will be uploaded to my YouTube account tomorrow :)

I haven't filmed it yet, but the Ranger got a nice thorough clean yesterday so she will be looking her best for her big moment.

My plan is to do a bit of cleaning with the room lit, and a bit with the curtains closed to show the Hedlite working.

Tyson: It was not in good shape when i got it, quite bad actually especially now its gone to the dump. I absolutly gutted it of everything i could use again. I am now getting a nicer unit of the same machine and putting my mint parts on it. If you want and i do before and after and evan the whole process of me cleaning a junior in photos. Just wait till i get the new machine. I orderd one on ebay today that was spares or repairs. I needed a few parts off it and it was so cheap... :)jmurray01 + juniorsenior: I try to use all my vacs atleast once every month or so, so they dont seize up.

I'd love to see the before, during & after pictures!

I have the same philosophy as you about using my cleaners at least once a month.

Longer than a month, and I start to worry about it working when I use it next!

By any chance, is this the Junior you bought ?

Its only a year younger than your Ranger made in 76 a CO OP special. it was my nannas and had been lying for about 15 years in a cupboard where i had hid it because i had been told to throw it out.
I got clean a new plug and belt and it started up on the button and works great and my wife loves it so we got rid of the Dyson to use this.

By CO OP you don't mean the supermarket do you!?

Wow, I'm surprised it is a '76, it looks like a '66!

Does it have the 400W/600W motor by any chance ?

But then again, it was made back when older styles were in fashion, not like these days when everything has to be modern to sell.

Well done for hiding it! :)

These are my other 2 machines and a toy Junior
The 1969 652A is my experimental machine for fiddeling about with but is in great nic but had a horrible thick not standard flex on it which has now been removed.
The 1965 1334A has a non standard bag and hood cover but runs like new.
The toy junior is an Ebay purchase just like one i got for christmas 1983.

@ Jamie yes it was a Co op superstore exclusive as that colour was only available to the Co op and yes its the 400w / 600w motor
@ Jake if your not fast your last i hope you enjoy your purchase.

Once shaggy type carpet goes flat, it never is the same. My nan has very thick carpet in her dining room, living room and hallway. Its so flat, old and gone sort of stickey. No shampooing and through vacuuming can make it like it was all them years ago.

Post# 163902 , Reply# 56   12/30/2011 at 18:21 (4,669 days old) by juniorsenior ()

Yes your right but because of the kids being young it doesnt make sense to change it this now, its not that bad really.

The only thing you can do to prevent a thick pile carpet from going flat is to vacuum it regularly, but even then it will go eventually.

Its looking good this now after i juniored it and put a bit of shake n vac down. If the missus had her way the whole house would be laminate floor.. NO WAY!
