A new arrival here in the Village of West Clay (or, as Fred Nelson has dubbed it, "Tarantula Arms South" - LOL!) A Hoover Model 42 Tank cleaner, in fabulous shape, almost looks brand new!

Hoover Model 42

Even came with a bunch of Type V bags, some with a 1965 date and some with a 1977 date...

For the "unveiling."  Or for more common terminology - the unboxing.   Truly a beauty.  Congratulations Scott.

Lovely machine! One of my favorite tanks by Hoover. Such a pretty machine. Thanks for sharing! :-)

So Happy for you....

Hey Scott,

Yes, I would have to say that this TANK is a great addition to your wonderful HOOVER collection so it's surely in good company. I've already given some thought to the next chapter of your collection,(lol) so 'hold on to your wallet!'(LOL) Patience will no-doubt pay off. Major Congratulations, S-man!
RB

P.S. I only know of four other really wonderful 42's at this time; one being in a Minneapolis garden window, another being further south in Indy, one sunning in Palm Springs, and a last residing in Orange County. Anyone else have a 42?

Rick

I Have A 42!

But mine's not quite as nice as this one, or as complete. The only attachments I have are the hose, wands, rug nozzle, and dust brush, and the suction regulator is missing from the hose. However, I do have a couple extra dust brushes (one brown, one blue) that I would gladly trade one on one for the upholstery brush, crevice tool, or floor brush that I am missing.

I have a 53

without a dusting brush!
Jeff - would you be interested in selling your brown dust brush outright?  I have a crevice tool but not a spare.  Give it some thought and let me know.
Thanks,
Tom

Hi Scott

Sorry - got so excited at the prospect of maybe getting a dusting brush I forgot to congratulate you on that beautiful 42!! Fabulous!! I remember as a kid thinking they were way cooler, with their pushed-in noses, than the 53 but my mom didn't agree. So we got a 53 but the look has grown on me over the years. Got one on ebay years ago without the crevice tool and dusting brush. The crevice tool came from Tom Anderson in North Canton. Hoover slip-fit tools are hard to come by!

Hey Tom -

Is that a Hoover 27 in that group of vacuums in your profile picture? If it is, would you mind snapping a few photos of it and posting them on here? Always wanted to see one, have still never seen one in person! Thanks much, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Hey Tom,

As you said, Hoover slip on tools are hard to come by, and although I would prefer to trade the brush for one of the attachments I need for mine, I might be interested in selling it outright. Shoot me an email at pressmanjs@yahoo.com.

Hi Scott

I'm amazed you can pick anything out of that mess! The Hoover in the center is a 26 and that on the left is a 28 with a metal hood. The 28 was real mess and the 26 had a white handle so both got the spa treatment. The bases are Rustoleum not-quite-hoover tan hammertone and the handle not-quite-hoover dark brown. I liked the 2 tone hood look from pix I'd seen (model 27?) so I hammertoned the center panel and base, then did dark brown on the sides. Not original or correct but it looks good! I'd post pictures but the stupid camera is in one of its moods.
By the way, the bags you have on your trio are gorgeous!!! Original or lucky finds?
PS - too shakey to pinstripe the 28 so it has a band of gold metallic craft paint.
TTFN,
Tom

Tom - whenever you post your pics....

I will be definitely excited to see them! Great machines indeed! The bags on those 3 machines in my pictures are all orginals - Models 61, 28, and 305! Thanks for noticing!

I really love both machines - the 42 and the 53. They are very similar and I agree, those slip-on tools are somewhat rare.  Here is my 53, found literally new in the box.  One of my prize possessions.

Hoover 42

I had a 42 but I could not find a hose fitting. I put a new cord on it and tried to sell it but no luck. Rather than have it take up space in my apt.,I put it out with the trash.
