Did Kirby Force Royal to Drop the 888/980 in the Early '80s?

Is it true that Kirby had forced Royal to discontinue models 888 and 980 - you know, the two Royals with the removable nozzle heads - because these two Royals infringed on Kirby patents???

Of course, the 980 was the Electro-Hygiene-branded version.

I wonder if it was Kirby that was also responsible for forcing Royal to shut down its Electro-Hygiene division during 1983. Why? Royal touted its premium Electro-Hygiene models (903, 980) to be more in line with Kirby than the common Royal.

It would make sense that Kirby would do that- Kirbys and Royals are very similar, after all.
