I found a hoover dustette in dads garage, and wanted to find out more info about it. It's been a real conversation piece in there, but I really thinks it needs to come in out of the garage. The canvas bag is very dusty and not in perfect shape, I don't want to damage it more by cleaning it wrong. I would appreciate any information you would be willing to share.

Is it like this one?  The Dustette was offered for quite a few years and had several variations.  Old cloth bags become fragile and washing them is very risky at best.  I'd suggest carefully turning the bag inside out and vacuuming it to remove the accumulated dust.  Unless there is evidence of mildew that's as far as I'd go.  It isn't just the bag; cords also suffer from being left in unconditioned spaces like garages and attics and any place damp is never good for metal.  When you can, post a photo of yours and somebody here is bound to know everything about it.  By the way, welcome to the forum!

Thank you for the quick reply and welcome, Henry200. It is quite close to that one. It's a different color, and no where near as lovely, or in the condition yours.

The model number 1016 and it was made in Canada, and it will never be a show piece. Still I love the way it looks, and think it would be nice to put in the family room on a shelf. Is there a cleaner that you would recommend for the metal?

I'll post a picture when I can.
