I think its amazing what might be the worst biggest load of rubbish vacuum can be your dream find Just because a family member had one when you were little.

I am still searching for my Grans vac , even a pic , a yellow and brown Electrolux ( uk ) 404, columbus made thier own version aswell in orange.

Its amazing how much these vacuums can mean

They do mean alot to all of us. To me its a touch stone to the past. Puts me in connection to a life less complicated, more fun, easy going, the only thing you would worry about is when is she going to run the sweeper again!   I just found a GE like my mother's original canister!  I can't wait to get it!

the 404 is a upright electrolux ( not the USA electrolux but Uk and rest of the world ) it has a cloth bag brown in color with the electrolux emblem printed al over it, it had a plasic hood in yellow. Its not the pretiest thing As far as I know it was the only electrolux with a proper cloth bag attached at the rear.

Yes I agree its a link to my past, My Gran lived in a small karoo town called oudshoorn about 4 hours outside of cape town in a big victorian house that had a passage that ran from the front portch to the back door, every morning the carpet would get rolled up and the wooden floor polished, my sister and i would then skate on the shiny floor in our socks.

I only recently found the same make of polisher , a twin brush columbus, as soon as it arrives I'll post pics.

I loved the way the vacuums bag inflated , it was a big cloth bag

I will ty and sketch a drawing of how it looked if I get a chance tonight

0h thats Nice!i would love to work at a vacuum shop.to see all the different vacuums coming in.so you often still see older vacuum cleaners?i always take a vacuum cleaner if its old or odd looking.even if its not working.sometimes its just a small fault.ive found 3 vintage vacuums at a pawnshop they thought wasnt working when i got home and cleaned it up its only a minor problem.excuse my english its not very good.where did you bought your columbus?the b11 polisher(polisher only) i knew from as long as i can remember.the other one i have the polisher/vacuum cleaner ive got from a friend in joburg.I would love to be in a vacuum repair shop with a room full of old and vintage vacuums.theres always that feeling of joy when i find a place selling vacuums.

Well next time your in Cape town pop inn.

Unfortunetly we don't see many old ones any more, We are big dyson agents , infact if a dyson is under warranty and it breaks any were in south africa they come to me.

I like both new and vintage vacuum cleanres

My Dad always said make your passion your job That way you will always enjoy so after designing vacuums at Electrolux I opened a vacuum shop, as far as I know the only vacuum shop in SA that sells new vacuums different brands ( not tied to one brand like Kirby or sebo ) and repairs them too

Wish i could make my passion my job.i would like to be a vacuum cleaner agent,it sounds crazy but the sound of a vacuum cleaner calms me down.if it wasnt neccesary for such a big start up cost i would have definately opened a vacuum repair shop or agency.i never knew dyson was a brand sold in south africa, untill a few years ago ive seen a place in bloemfontein selling them and never seen a sebo vacuum cleaner personally only on photos.i would like to find a kirby vacuum cleaner of the 50's or 60's.i have a vacuum cleaner in my collection its a 1985 premiere mini vac,as far as i know the only agency selling their parts is in cape town.its a type of industrial vacuum cleaner.are you selling dyson and sebo vacuum cleaners?

Just dyson, Aeg & bissell( the new bissel not verimark) the sebo's are two expensive although Im working on a deal.

i would also love a Kirby from the 50's I had one but this is SA and it was swipped before I could rebuild it.

The start up cost to doing vac repairs was not allot its the spares that cost and when you small you buy as you need. withinn the next few years I want to open up a few branches I will call you.

Its not all fun and games but thier is big potential in this country for those of us who want to work

what do yu do at the moment ?

My Electrolux Z302

Heres the pic of my Electrolux Z302 it used to have a grey power cord but it burned out a few times in its life so the power cord was used for something else. I had the motor rewinded and now i cant get a grey cord anywhere.the accesories are packed away.

Nice.i wouldnt let go of my z302 even if its only the bodyshell left.i cant get hold of any of the motor parts anywhere,so i only occasionaly switch it on.i would like to have the Z303 it looks the same but its black and red and the exhaust grill is chrome.if you ever came across cylinder vacuum cleaners that you have already would you please keep me in mind?even if its not working.ive seen a pic of a black cylinder hoover on one of your posts thats a beaut.ive got a hoover model 402 made from 1949 and its made in great brittain its in a hectic state, but working perfectly!

I love the whole idea of a floor polisher that also acts as a vacuum! Shame these are so rare in North America.

Now with all this hard-wood flooring in vogue, I'm surprised that Simplicity or Aerus has not introduced a floor polisher that also sucks up dust and dirt from bare floors!
