I went to the good will today.

to my disappointment nothing interesting in the vacuum section. A dirt devil MVP hard case bagged machine, eureka ultra looking machine, hoover elite hard bag, eureka 1934, Sanitaire lower end blue line, and a plastic base green convertible.

But while searching the bins, I stumbled upon these!

Brand new never used kirby attachments! Too nice to pass, and coming to about $7, I took em.

Sadly they said the "chrome red and grey" kirby sold earlier that day. :P

What did these go to?

The box is so crisp and colorful!

Ah! Love these kirby boxes.

The hose is gorgeous and shiny too.

Noooo.

This is definitely mid to late 50s. 500 series kirby.

Yeah, definitely not a post-Sanitronic machine.

Just look at the Kirby logos on the box, that should tell you the age right there.

I would guess 560 or 561, from the style of the tools.

Of course, it has the hose adaptor in there so it *could* be older.

I see I am missing the little metal piece that fits on the hose end and connects to the fancase of the machine.

Well I suppose thats no issue since I don't have a machine to use it with anyways.

Gee,, Another thing I have no use for but couldn't pass up. LOL

Little metal piece that fits on the hose end

What youre talking about is the red plastic piece in by the dusting brush.

Is that what that is?

The set of attachments I had with my 518 had a metal coupler, and didnt look anything like that.

Notice the metal piece in Freds uber fabulous 561s hose that a local store here restored (as he did my D80)

Here is a 518 Box for reference. I dont have the machine anymore.

I guess my current box is a 516 then! :)

Now to get a 516.

Well thats what I thought it was looked like....

Looks like it does connect to the hose, though.

Brandon & Kirby attachments...

a007kirbyman's profile picture
Hello Brandon.

Those Kirby attachments are from a model 560. The boxes for the 519, 560 & 561 are all 'similar' & yet, they are each definitely different.

The 'red thing' mentioned in the section of the box, by the duster brush, is the blower coupler. And yes, by the L@@Ks of it, the suction coupler is missing (the picture in the box of where it's stored, is in the lower left corner). It is what you see 'attached' to the hose in Fred's picture.

If you are L@@King for a coupler OR, ...are interested in selling the set, shoot me an email.

Cheers & hagd/n all,

Bill

Thanks all!

I called my kirby nut friend (a local guy) he told me the boxes were for a 560 as far as he can guess. He said he has tons of 560 and 561 boxes that are like that.

Glad to know that piece may be useful in some ways. I thought it was something from a different machine just thrown in the box!

I plan on trading these attachments, possibly for a Dual Sanitronic 50 or an all original 562 with my friend.

Wow that is beautiful I have a similar story today I picked up a mint Kirby classic omega box even though I don't have a omega but I couldn't resist it is just sooooo beautiful. Zach

560 or 561 would be a good guess. The 562 was "sorroco" (tan) colored so the attachments would not be red. The older 500 series (like my 510) had cloth covered hoses but I don't know exactly when they switched to plastic. Beautiful set!!!!

check out this link there is some good info as well to sift through

Ok my friend looked at the set and its definitely a 560/61 set. Thats when they introduced the plastic blower attachment.

He said he will clean up and restore one of his original Dual Sanitronic 50s for me, for finding the attachments for him (he needed the small box for one of his 560s)

He also is putting together a complete series of boxes and attachments for my Dual sanitronic 80, and is also making a paper bag setup for it using an oval sani emptor with green tray, and an original D80 bag (opening the back and putting a zipper in)

Actually, that style packaging -- small red Kirby circles all over -- was used for the 518 through the 560. The 561 packaging had the same pattern, however, the background color was turquoise. But the fact that the collar on the hose is red plastic does indeed narrow it down to a 560. Until then, the collar was unpainted metal.

When I get home I can post some photos of some of the various Kirby cartons if anyone's interested.

Or 519

I have seen this exact set with plenty of 519 models. So it was sometime during the production of this model that the fastening collar ring of the hose and the blower coupler were manufactured of red plastic instead of plain metal.

Yes, according to Charles Lester's Kirby page the plastic blower coupler debuted with the model 519, replacing the previous red painted metal blower coupler.

It should be known that the 516's attachment box was similar to the 515's except for being brownish (rather than grayish) and bearing a plaid rectangular pattern... and also, of course, the red attachments.

519

I have my Grandmother's all original 519 and the box, logo, red plastic blower are the same. The coupler is metal. My attachment box sadly is water stained from a hot water heater that leaked. :(
