I've never seen one of these. Were there not a lot of them sold? Does anyone have one, or have pictures of one?

09/11/2011???

Are you asking about the POD TODAY, August 9?  If you have already seen the POD for September 11 I'm taking you with me to a casino!!!

The Westinghouse vacuum in today's POD is a very rare bird around here at least.  I remember seeing advertisements in magazines for them but have never seen one in person.

Ooops LOL

I meant to refer to today's POD. I was in a hurry when I posted this morning, and apparently wasn't thinking clearly.

Do you have any idea what the color scheme was on this unit?

John Lucia used to have one of these beasts, and I saw and heard it run when I visited him Many Moons Ago in San Francisco. I have to say, it's among the noisiest vacuum cleaners I've ever come across -- makes just an ungodly racket!

Westinghouse

Hope you don't mind me making a correction, but although Westinghouse headquarters and main plant were in Mansfield, OH, their vacuum cleaners and fans were actually made in another plant in Springfield, MA. All large appliances were at one time made in Mansfield, but in the mid-50's refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, and water heaters were transferred to other plants. Small appliances produced in Mansfield included irons, toasters, coffee makers, waffle irons, griddles, can openers, electric knives, blenders, portable mixers, fry pans, hair dryers, electric toothbrushes, and the ever famous and popular Westinghouse roaster. In 1967, the small appliances were moved to Byesville, OH, and 3 years later the small appliance lines were sold to Hamilton Beach/Scoville.
I grew up in Mansfield, and actually worked at the Westinghouse plant for about 6 months in 1977, about 2 years after they were bought by White Consolidated Industries. By that time the only appliances made in the Mansfield plant were washers, dryers, and ranges, the name on the appliances was White-Westinghouse, and the plant itself was called Mansfield Products Division of White Consolidated Industries. They were then acquired by AB Electrolux in 1986, and the plant was closed in 1990. This year they have begun to tear down part of the buildings, but not all of them.

This vacuum appears periodically over at AW.org as part of an ad for Westinghouse home laundry equipment. It looks very unique, wouldn't mind trying one in person some time.
