After nearly four months.... My Tradition is FINALLY DONE! This was my first restoration project I didn't get into taking apart the motor and stuff, because 1)I'm not smart enough to take it apart to that extent. :P And, 2) Because the motor is just fine. Doesn't need new bearings, carbon brushes, etc.

The power is out at my house so I cant turn on the lights to take the picture. When it comes back on Ill definitely post some pictures!

Here's some of the things I restored:

-Fixed stuck zipper on bag. (That was probably the hardest part of the resto!)

-Gave bag a MAJOR cleaning. (And you all know how long it took for me to finally get that @#$% bag on!)

-Replaced brushroll.

-Gave the fan case a major cleaning. (Blech! I should have taken some pics of it!)

-Gave it a good polishing.

-And last but not least, I put in a new lightbulb.

Ill definitely be posting some before & after pics once the power comes back on!

You did a nice job there. But be warned, once you finish your first resto you will want to keep doing more and more and more! It's a good thing, but once bitten you cant stop!

beautiful machine!

I am also in the process of restoring a Tradition. It's a long (and expensive) restoration however, since the motor unit and emptor (excluding nozzle) are the only parts I have! Your's looks good though and now you can enjoy it! Do you have the original bag setup or have you upgraded to use newer bags?

@vacumaniac: I know! It's the only vac that I had that actually NEEDED a resto, and now I am specifically looking for another vac to do a restoration on! It was a fun project and now that it's done I'm just going to admire it for a couple of hours- or days :P- before I really get to using it. :P

@KirbyLover: It still has the original setup. I just found out it has a dust leakage problem on the fill-tube adaptor, is there any type of sealant I can use to fix it?

vac_whisperer: typically a good silicone sealant does the trick

Thanks! Im headed to town tomorrow so I'll put it on my shopping list. Any specific brand/where can I find it?

I use DAP 100 percent silicone sealant (comes in a smaller toothpaste like tube) but I am sure other brands would work just fine

Thanks! Where can I find it?

Hmmm.... not sure what state you are in but Menards & Lowes both carry it around here (WI). I would think any major home imporvement chain would have it, but I am sure if you cannot find it other silicone sealants will do the same thing
