I got a lot of stuff from that place, still sorting it all. Unfortunately most that pile including the Kirbys went to meet their maker. Just too long out in the elements. ill post some of my finds from this place as well.

Wow. Looks like some of the stores around here. Lol. Some cool looking stuff in there!

Isn't it just amazing the conditions of some of these places? There is a place in Cathedral City that Victor and I have gone through that is in almost as bad a condition as in this picture.

I think the perfect part time job for any high school kid (or for a collector)would be is to keep the back room clean and tidy. Break down vacuums for parts, or group them by make, etc. Would be perfect for someone with OCD! Parts could be easily accessable, the room would be neat.

I would work for free (well maybe lunch) just for the sheer satisfaction of cleaning the room and making everything orderly and making a mental inventory of what is available.

I mean, talk about a room full of rare or spare parts just ready for ebay. I would think that would help the shop owner as well.

Congrats you guys on your finds!

Marty

Marty. I have been telling the owners of the local shops the same thing! I'd work for volunteer hours for school by doin that!

well his building started to go into disrepair about 1984 and parts were just closed off as buisness slowed. these are the areas he just never went into anymore just threw junkers in.

"Closing down"....

or falling down!? Nobody was seriously operating a business associated with that room....correct? I would expect GREAT deals to come from that room....you risk your life walking through it.;-)

It's so sad to see a lot of vacuums being slung into a room like that, a lot probably would have been repairable had they got the proper treatment (heck, I'm sure Kirby would have rebuilt all those discarded Kirby vacs!!!), honestly it is pretty much a case of hoarding, on a commercial scale... :(

Seeing pictures like that mades me wonder what kind of business they were running and if it isn't a sign of someone with problems.  It makes me think of the people who live in "garbage houses."  Don't these people know what dumpsters are for?  I think it's very sad.

That room reminds me of the first location of my store. It was an 80+ year old place that had a garage/shack type part to it. Even I had my parts machine room looking better than that.

I hope you were wearing Hazmat face masks when you were going through that stuff!
