I found this nice Royal 880 today. Of course there is a story to go with it. Down the road from one of my dad's new houses, there is an older house, and every time we would pass it, I'd notice a Royal 880, Shark Sweeper, Hoover Steam Vac, and a Eureka Smart Vac sitting in the front porch of the house. They weren't 'outside', it was an indoor porch if that makes sense, with windows. Anyways, I had always drove passed on garbage nights to see if they threw the Royal away, but they never did, it always sat in the same place. Well today they had a yard sale and I thought maybe they were selling the Royal! So when we passed the house I saw it still on the porch, but I decided that this was my chance to ask the owners if they would part with it. I walked up and asked a real old lady about it and she said that she knew exactly what I was talking about and that it was her vacuum and I should talk to her daughter (which owned the house). The daughter said she knew nothing about it and to go back and talk to her mom about it. She began to tell me how she bought it brand new and it was very expensive and that she stopped using it because it wasn't good at picking up lint on her carpeting. She also said that it had been taken in once a year to be serviced and it was very well maintained. She asked me how much I'd be willing to pay for it and I said it depended on the condition, but most likely $20-$30. They brought it out and it had a replacement bag and some attachments. The lady said she'd take $40 for it, and I said I'd think about it and come back tomorrow. The older lady then said alright go ahead and take it for $25. So I did just that! It runs absolutely flawlessly! And I can most likely get an original 880 bag for it. The cord is in great shape with no rips. I am thinking that the attachments are genuine Royal tools, but I know that the 880 would have came with blue tools. But I plan on polishing this up and making it pretty again!

So now you have two of these Royal 880s, right?

What is the s/n on this one? Again, it appears to resemble a 1976-84 model going by the Adjust-O-Rite plate and the fan case design.

If this 880 has a mfg. date from January 1982 (look for the s/n to start with "A82") it would have a 4.5 amp motor.
