Yesterday I received a package from Sam Geresti aka xraytech. When I opened the box I couldn't believe what I saw...a boxtop bag Hoover Convertible. The model# is a U4195-001. The only other collector that I know who has this model is Alex Braun. This is an early 80's plastic base model and I am not sure how many of these were made. Mine has a serial number 00002578 so I am guessing that this was one of 2,578??? Also in the package was a birthday card with a vintage late 40's/early 50's Eureka on it. Here are a few pictures that I am posting for you guys to enjoy!

Fabulous! A rare bird, indeed! The box-top bags look so odd on Hoovers!

Your cleaner would be #1,577. By that time, Hoover had started using serial number 1,001 as their first cleaner off the line. So as a rule, take your serial number and subtract 1,001 from it -- that's your cleaner's number of production (at least after the mid-60s or so).

Congratulations and Happy Birthday! That was so nice of Sam and such a nice vacuum. It looks almost new.
