My first foray into vacuum rehab has come to an end. The polishing of the aluminum on the 516 was netting mixed results, part of which had to do with some deep gouges on the cast, therefore I decided to go a bit taboo and painted the 516 with retro coloring... I must say I am quite pleased with the results!

Well, it will take some getting used to...!  ;P  I will say, if I were to paint a Kirby I'd do it all in one color.

Nice that you have the original cord.

If it were mine

I would have painted it with chrome spraypaint- but to each his own.

I think I too would have used a single colour, or if I were to use another colour, I'd have used something that would look in keeping, the light bits make it look like it's been made up of parts from another painted up machine....

That said, I personally wouldn't paint a Kirby, they look much better when they're all shined up, even if they have some gouges out of the casting, so long as they shine... :)

Well...

I think it looks beautiful! I love to see it when people do this! My problem with collecting Kirbys is that I've seen pretty much all of them, so I know what I'm looking out for, whereas with Numatic for example, I'm always surprised to find new cleaners that I've never heard of before :) So when somebody goes adventurous and does something like this, it's always a nice surprise. I've told myself, that if I manage to get a hold of a duplicate of my constellation, I am going to paint my original one (as it currently has the most embarrassing, sorry respray in the world covering it's flesh!" I'm thinking of either doing it in Chrome or, in a more Bronzen/copper colour :)

I love it!  It's fun to goof around with stuff like that.
